Now that's customer service!Follow

I was tooling around in T-Steppes tonight heading towards the dock when I noticed a character standing in the sand with an odd tag above his head. It read "Carbon SOE customer service". I stopped and chatted with him for a minute... no complaint, just passing the time... and I got a wierd message in my chatbox. It read "Carbon is re-spawning the zone, find someplace safe". So, I waved goodbye and trotted up onto the dock to wait till he was done.

He stood there for a minute and then he was just gone... he didn't camp or walk away... he just disappeared. So I trotted back down to the sand, ran up the beach and started smacking beach clampers. (A favorite pass-time since they're still white to me and they drop lots of meat.)

Anyway, I gotta tell you, it was like Christmas in June! Chests were popping almost every other mob and almost every kill dropped something. I ran back up the canyon and smacked some antelope and a few bear and it was more of the same. It was like hitting a generous slot machine in Vegas!

Now, that's what I call customer service!

That's pretty cool! But I'm really hoping that they start doing events soon. I always liked them in EQ1 and I hope they have plans to do it in EQ2.

I liked the events that everybody could enjoy, such as the fabled mobs in eq1 for example. I never did care for the ones that only 1 person really won anything from though.

I'm sorry, you LIKED EQ1 GM events? The "omg they spawned a mob that's 4 times higher than the zone and killed every level appropriate person in the zone" events? Then some high end guild comes in and kills the mob and claims the loot and everyone else gets a nice corpse run out of it? That type event?

Yeah, gosh I sure have fond memories...
NOT!

I can definitely live without those.

The only event that I ever participated in that wasn't like the above was one in rivervale where they had a story telling event and whoever told a decent story was given a small item (nothing worth bragging about). Maybe the equivalent of a small house pet in EQ2 type item.

Other than that, in at least 10 events that I saw or avoided, they all followed the "lets kill everyone because we're bored GMs and we can give some high end peeps some more loot" style.

Definitely don't miss GM events. If on the other hand they go for the real story type events, the ones that I always wished they'd do, then yea, lets get some going!

I stumbled upon a cool GM event outside the library in PoK one night. A GM was there roleplaying a bard & telling riddles and the first person to answer each riddle correctly recieved a random gem.

It went on for more than an hour and the 20 or so people gathered sure seemed to be having fun!

I remember an event where people were recruited in EC into an evil army, and the good army was set up to defend FP. A GM led each army into battle.

That type of event is a real blast Smiley: smile

Once I found a GM in PoK singing a spoofed troll version of "My Favorite Things." The same person turned everyone around into trolls. It was fun to be a troll bard in blue armor and a pink helmet (my EQ1 bard liked armor dye). :)

And practically every month my server did a halfling high dive, where everyone made newbie halflings and tried to jump them down from a waterfall in Rivervale. The first one to land and not die won a prize...not sure what kind.

I've seen a GM handing out milk and cookies in PoK, he gave me some becasue he liked the color of my armor.

You can make your own events too, like the halfling high dive or drunken barbarian races. A bunch of people in my guild once created newbie DE, Troll and Ogre characters and invaded GFay. We mainly ran around yelling about eating Wood Elves and such to scare the newbs. (Stromm "The Newbie Server" always seems to have real newbs.) Eventually the GM's showed up controlling the guards and pwnt us.
