Maybe someone can help me here, i read on Ogaming that frozen manacles was a must have, i just got it myself at level 19 and its a:

0.5 second root
+ 20-30 damage or so
cost:33 mana, recast time of 9second.

Now thats the most useless spell i have got since i play everquest 2 i think, anyone can tell me why i see people drooling over it ?

is upgrading that spell making an insane difference ? cause i never saw an upgrade play on duration so if it stays at 0.5 sec, whats the point ?

I have this at Adept3 and I can assure you that the duration is longer than .5 sec, but not as long as it should be for a root spell. My guess is that it is the intended upgrade for Arcane Bindings for Sorc as Immobilize is for the Summoner.

When I get a chance to log in, I'll post the actually timer duration I get after casting.

Maybe it does last longer than 0.5, just saw duration 0.9 sec and recast 9sec, maybe it is a mistake tho on the app 1 description, but ill take it for cash if people do agree that it is a good root, the effect is certainly really great :) much better than arcane bindings

I still use this spell at 46. Some reasons? The higher level root spells break after the mob takes damage (though their secondary effect holds them in place for a bit longer after it actually breaks). The other roots also do not effect epic targets, while frozen manacles does. It still does its job, and works great, even in the higher levels. Just because a spell is grey, doesn't mean it isn't useful..

The duration posted in the spell description is wrong. I've never bothered to time the duration myself, but at App II its just a little longer than it takes you to kill a mob with your spells (including your HO ability), provided you manage to avoid interrupts and fizzles. So if you're using it to split a pair of mobs, you don't want to take any longer than you have to.

And its somewhat unreliable if you're doing damage on the target. I don't think a pre-existing DoT will break it. I've tossed Whorl on a mob, and then rooted it, and never had the spell break while I was getting more distance between myself and the mob. But any damage spells that land while Manacles is up have a chance to break it. Sometimes you'll manage to go through the entire fight and not have Manacles break. Other times, you'll have Manacles break when your first damage spell lands.
