How much is "enough"?Follow

#1 May 20 2005 at 2:56 AM Rating: Decent
I was thinking about how nice it would be to be independently wealthy, (in-game I mean)... and it made me wonder just how much plat I would need to never again be worried about spell upgrades, armor, weapons, food & drink and the like.

I never did come up with a hard figure that would make my main and all my alts feel footloose and fancy free... so what about you? How much money would it take to make you feel like a Norrathian Bill Gates?

Would 10 plat be enough to last a toon's lifetime? would 5? or even 3? Or am I headed in the wrong direction... would it take 20? 30? 50?

Well I am new to the game but to feel like the Bill Gates of Norrath maybe triple digit Plats. I mean after you upgrade all you spells and what not to Master, then invest in a nice flying carpet and get yourself the best gear available you would prolly be well over 100 Platinum.

If you are talking about covering all your mains costs up to 50 and your alts as well.. it would be well over 100 plat.. you are talking prolly closer to 2 to 4 hundred plat to feel like a bill gates. Some items can sell for 50 plat on the broker.. i mean you don't have to buy them but if you master 1 and adept 3 your top say what 15 spells you are talking about 20 to 30 plat depending on your class. Just for one chars. Plus special mounts and all that stuff. Top notch food and drink and armor and weapons... it would be a lot.. I feel like a bum when I think about all of that..

I dunno about how much is enough, but I now have 7 gp in the bank and I earn about 1gp a day.

I know I spend most of that earned gold and I still haven't upgraded my spells.
But, I also take collection missions from my wholesaler (he's been giving me collect 15 __X__ items from the Thundering Steppes) and those are paying 53sp per mission.
I also gather just about everyting I see (roots, fayberries, etc) and I then offer those for 50-75% of the market price.

I was making Pristine Tanned Leather Backpacks and selling them for 20sp each (about 5sp lower than others). I couldn't make them fast enough. But I want to play an adventurer and not just a crafter...

I see people living in the nice houses in NQ but I ask myself what will that do for me? It just costs me money I don't want to spedn... The starting Inn Room I have is just fine.

Are the larger Inn Rooms anything other than larger space wise? Do they have larger banks?
If not, why spend the money?

Perhaps I am naive... But if I wanted to decorate a house I would play The Sims II....

I'd say around a thousand PP to be totally footloose and fancy free for all your toons.

I just got around 4pp and I can afford to buy whatever I want minus master 1 spells pretty much (and frankly they are overrated IMO). I mean why spend 5pp on a Master 1 spell when I can go 1 grade less and get a Adept 3 for 50goldish?

I'm one of those people who have 1 toon of each tradeskill type, so overall I never need to buy at broker for player made items.

I also go out and harvest until I get the items i need, including rares (even if it takes days) so again, I never need the broker.

Now my understanding of "independantly wealthy" was that a person had enough income coming from outside sources (stocks, bonds, inheriteance) that they didn't need to work.

This conversation is more of a "winning the lotto" one, in which case I would like 9 thousand plat :-D

Yeah, personally, I'm no where near 1000... or 100... or even 10 plat in the bank, so I guess for now I better keep on earning!

Still waiting to see my first GP, so this discussion makes me shed platinum-colored tears.

I think 500 Plat would be enough. If I had 500 plat, I would give noobs 10 plat to do things like dance in the streets or flirt with the animals of the city.

Heck, will someone give me 5 plat to kiss a cat in Qeynos? Cause I need to buy some spell upgrades...

Yeah, i'm slowly selling and saving, selling and saving. Have enough alts to cover all of the profitable tradeskills, but having the time to get those alts to a level where the stuff starts making real money is a problem. My level 30 Fury/26 tailor has 34 gold in the bank after supplying all of my alts with start up cash. My level 17 sorcerer/18 scholar has about 10 gold in the bank all made from sales of spells. It's a time consuming process, but with patience, tradeskilling and selling is a potential moneymaker.
