Mage / SummonerFollow

I have a cute little wood elf mage in Q who needs some advice. I seem to be trudging along slowly. I really do get side tracked with quests and have so far at level 15, filled my quest journal completely 3-seperate times. I seem to really get stalled on a few quests though. The lvl 10 dankfur gnolls have killed me so many times it has now become a matter of revenge. I can't wait to get my guild to aid me in blasting their furry little hides to the farthest reaches of Antonica.

I have only attempted to kill the pair of gnolls at a time. I root one while the pet and I blast away at the other one. Only once out of, oh maybe 10 times have I not died. What am I doing wrong?

I was also wondering how I get the third pet in the series. I think this is Adept III? I have been searching a few websites and just haven't gotten what I need to know.

What quests are best for a mage of my level in the Q area? Any tips, tricks, and hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hmm try to use apprentice 4 and adept 1 spells at your level, dont go for adept 3 yet unless you have a friend that can make them for you or if you can do them yourselves.
Now as a caster its pretty hard to solo group mobs at these level but:
-To date spells
-To date armor
-To date food and water
will all help you quite a bit.
Now i remember that as a 16 enchanter i also had a hard time with these gnolls, so your not alone in the boat. They used to be group conned mobs back then and i guess they are still if you have trouble.
I was always close to winning but i never bothered to max spells and armor on enchanter. I was a provisionner so i hd good food.
I am pretty sure that you can mange good enough on them with food water armor and spell of good quality.

Good luck

As a summoner, forget about root, you have better way to deal with 2 mobs. Avoid any group with more than 2 mobs unless you know what you're doing. With 2 mobs, send pet on the nearest mob. The other will come straight for you. Target the mob that is on you and send pet to attack it while you unload all your dot and nuke on it. Once it is dead, let your pet tank the other one for a bit to build more agro before dotting and nuking. Or you could let the pet get the agro from the mob that is on you, then alternate pet attacking on both mobs. Then stick pet on one and start nuking and dotting it to dead. This works well with mobs that's blue con and below. Forget about taking on 2 double arrow up unless you have adept 3 pet. Upgrade your pet and pet heals to app4.

Technically, the way to get adept III spells is to harvest a rare rock (for your pet, this would be tier 2) and get someone to craft it into a rare ink, which is then used to create an adept III. (Or you could craft it yourself if you are a scholar.) This requires 1 or 2 rare crafting books, and rares are pretty hard to find.

Bottom line is, adept III spells are crazy expensive. The completed ones sell for 25-30 gold on my server...and summoner adepts tend to be high priced because they are so useful, and pet adepts in particular. So don't worry about it...you'll be fine with adept I if you can get it, or app IV if you can't find adepts.

To say the least. Even the components for tier 2 adept III spells, namely silver clusters, are 23 gold. This shocked me. I found one silver cluster and since my mage is a scholar, i'm holding onto that silver cluster till I decide what spell I want to make.

At least the Apprentice IV spells are common and I make them and they sell as fast as I can make them, especially the offensive type of spells.

My main character is now a 28 fury and I have used app IV spells effectively so I wouldn't worry too much about getting those higher level spells until you have a good money pool.

To Zoo,

You're biting off more than you can chew. But there's a way to stop eating before you start to choke.

Root/etc as many as you can but concentrance on one of the gnolls and kill it as fast as you can. Then run for the mainland.

Once they [and that includes any Coldwind Pike that might be nearby] give up chasing you, swim back and repeat.

Works on most mob groups too, this is where those movement debuff spells really pay off.

I'm level 15 myself but a shaman and I can take out any green ^^, any single blue ^ or any orange. If they are in groups, you just have to kill what you need then make a run* for it.

Asphe, very good point. I think I saw this happend just last night. I had thought that if you take on a group you would somehow not get the credit if you ran away like a girl. Which I am. I am not sure how I got this idea. I am finding EQII so much different then EQ. So much to learn all over. Wow!

I think this change was due to a recent update. I seem to remember that when I started playing in january, you didn't collect experience till you tookout the last mob in the group. Then you got paid for all of them. It made group targets and social mobs a difficult proposition at lower levels.

Since the alteration in code, you now get paid off as each mob drops. This has turned "wait and see" into a viable stratagy. Just remember to check on your health/power after each kill. When soloing nowdays, I no longer turn and run from overwhelming odds. I give it a few swings to see where it leads. After all, I can always decide to bolt if and when it gets dicey!

Ok summoner soloing is an art that once mastered can have you and your pet soloing things that some may have troubles doing. Anyway...

First as for Adept III in the early levels only do this if you looted the rare of have a friend hook you up.. The money you would spend on the pet alone have have you in top notch gear.. food, drink, potions, totems, and have every other spell you have at adept 1( which you should do if you can swing it) Not to mention at 20 you get an option for an upgraded Pet which can last you all the way up to level 32 at which point you can have got a hold of the adept III version of your 24 tank pet.( There is a better spell to take at 20 then the pet but unless you already have upgraded pets and spells you pretty much need this pet so you save your respec for after you have your new stuff then go back and take the other)

Ok as for tactics on soloing.. this is how I handle groups of two that I know I can't be taking hits from. Get in range and send pet in after one and root the other that comes to you.. now keep this one rooted and you and your pet work down the other... once it is dead still keep the other rooted.. and regen up if you must.. cast one last root and get a good long way away from the mob... to the point it is well out of casting range.. then send you pet in.. being so far away the mob will aggro to the pet and not come for you... let the pet go at it for as long as possible to build aggro then move in heal pet up and blast away... poof both dead.. no running...
