Really stupid question (but I gotta ask)Follow

I've never done tradeskills in this game at all, or any other game really (besides WoW where I was a 300 skinner, but meh I don't think that really counts much)

So I got up to level 9 Artisan with my Scorc, did his class quest (did I mention Wizards have the EASIEST quest ever? It was so much easier than both my Inquisitor and my Monk... )

ahem anyway so of course now I'm level 11 Craftsman and plan to go Provisioner so I can make my own food and drinks, save a bit of money and maybe make some as gifts for my friends.

Questions (this will show just how newbish I am at the crafting aspect of this game)

Where can I find level 10+ artisan type books in Freeport?

Do I have to join a specialized Tradeskill place or can I just keep using the War Hagglers (because they seem to have all the basic cooking stuff I need)

what level do I graduate from Craftsman to Provisioner?

Anyway thanks in advance, silly questions I know but :P I'm a dork.

You become a provisoner at lvl 20. You have to do the same thing and register once you hit 20 and declare your path.

As for the books you should now be able to join a crafting socity which you can get the books from. You will pretty much only get your books there cause they don't sell the basic crafting stuff which makes it a pain to craft there..

Here is a tip for you.. so you don't have to learn it the hardway. If you want to level quick and have better products with less work.. plan out your leveling. Reason i say this is as a provisoner they kind of ladder your spell. You get refines at the start of the level. While you are getting xp for these. refine the crap out of stuff. Then you get access to simple food and drink.. you use the refines to make those.. but if you hold on to them in a few levels you will be able to combine some of the simple items into more advancded items. If you don't save up this stuff and have to try and make an advance drink from scratch you will spend a lot of time and get little xp..

Provisioner is great. But Arta is totally correct.

For a basic example, sometime in the 4s (14, 24, 34, etc) you get various steaks. Say you have a carp. At 24 or 34 you make carp steak. Then a few levels later, you make carp jerky out of that carp steak.

My recommendation is "go fish". Once you can make the steaks, make vast quantities of steak. Then once you can make jerky, turn it all into jerky. Jerky lasts a long time.

Sure, some people will tell you to make 1 of everything to advance, and that approach works, but personally, at least on my provisioner, I make a 100 of one item at a session, and I've moved up pretty good with that approach.

I make stuff out of fish and then I make drinks. That's it. Unless I'm trying to make a specific item for some particular reason. Fish jerky and whatever long lasting drink there is at that level that uses the least amount of raw inputs, that's the way to go.

Yeah I refine the raw stuff I catch/harvest/fish and then use it to make the more complicated stuff :) I already figured that part out because otherwise I'd be wasting all kinds of time and money.

Where's a Crafting Society I can join to get the books?

In your home village where your Wholesaler Society is, you will also find your Workshop. They're all marked on the maps. You should (and can)only belong to only 2 Societies. Smiley: smile

If you click on Societies under your EQ button, it gives you the full list.

Suggestion:

You should pick the Society that has the highest level for yuor class.

They gain levels as their members complete quests... Kind of like the quests for your guild.

The higher the level the better the wholesaler will have in supplies.

They removed that and as far as I know there are zero advantages to having a high level society anymore.

Yeah they took that away some time ago.. you can no longer buy that stuff from the wholeseller... it is crap there is no reason to level a socitiy now..
