as u can see from my post title i was wondering what the best one handed weapon i should use for a guardian? ill have a kitesheild on the second arm but what type of weapon should i have? sword,spear,axe????

u should use all. u need to keep up ur skill on all three types, slash, crush, and pierce. there is nice stuff out there for each, plus some mobs are only hit by one kind.
if ur asking about which type in slashing, each type with have a different delay and damage, but they are usually combined into a damage rating, sorta easy way to tell how much it deals(all things being equal). there are plenty of reasons for qwick weapons, as well as long delay weapons. it all depends on the stradegy. mess around with how u play and different types, see what works, but theres no harm in having more than one weapon.
i personally got lucky and found a 1h pierce <posion laced spear> on broker(selling for less than the vendor price). great stats and a 44.1 rating, which is better than my 2h axe ;o/ i cant find it on any sites, so no idea where it came from.

Also go with a Tower shield 
i like slashing weps best.

ok well if tower seild=kite sheild i went with one handed spear/kitesheild
Don't limit yourself to one type of weapon, with ANY class. Always try to skillup whatever weapons you are able to equip as much as you can, as soon as you can.
It really sucks to loot an awesome weapon at higher levels that you can't equip because you don't have the skill.

Yeah or you'll end up like me, spending time on the beach in TS wacking little grey crabs just to get your *crushing* up

As many of the replies have mentioned, using all 3 types of weapons is good, and required later on in the game.
Choosing a 1h can depend on a few things. Mainly, which is the best one that you have available to you currently. Second, take a look at the delay. Higher delay means you will take less riposte damage (I assume your tanking since your a guardian)in the long run.

my main is 22 guardian, i always used my aegis in one hand and sword in the other. i never found axes and spears went very well with shields, if your gonna get an axe, get a 2 handed one.

Personally, I think the piercing weapons suck! I have only used one handed blunt and slashing weapons for my SK. He's up to level 55 and I have never regretted not keeping my piercing skill up. If a mob's been immune to slashing, I've always been able to pound it with my blunt weapon, and vice versa. Just my two cents worth!
