New guy looking for help!Follow

#1 Apr 30 2005 at 1:07 PM Rating: Decent
okay i have a dell 8300 series (p4 2.8GHZ, 1024 ram, nvidia 128 card) but i need help with grapics settings to get this game to run smoothly.
I dont care about shadows or particle effects, or how nice the water looks (this is killing my Frame rate)
Anyone with a similar system have a rundown of what the diff options do and reccomended settings?
I want the game to look better than EQ1 but run smoothly. Id like my armor to look good and some detail on stuff close to my character. Should i use letterbox mode or fullscreen, stuff like that.
I really want to get this game but i dont want it to run like ***. I dont mind lag in very crowded zones (read Jeuno AH for FFXI ppl)\
Just tired of saying "Oh pretty water, wait i cant move!)
should i turn off voiceovers or anything?
help me please! (sorry if this has been answered alot but i dont have a premium acct so i cant use the search function for the forums)

You don't specify which vid card you are running and the sad simple truth is that all 128mb cards were NOT created equal! I suspect that since you have a store bought machine, (and not a home brewed rig), the vid card is the weakest link.

Remember also that EQ2 was not designed with current tech in mind but was instead developed to take advantage of the way computers will someday be built! So, even the hottest box on the market today will still only let you see a small portion of what EQ2 has to offer. We are all gonna have to wait to really see the world we are all playing in!

That being said, there are some things you can do... first, try a simple basic default setup like high performance. If this works well, you can step up to balanced performance, still using the defaults for that choice. (Balanced is where I play with a decent 256mb ati card.)

If you are still ok at this point, you can begin to tweak individual parameters but remember which controls you adjust so if you hit a prtoblem area, you can back it out.

When you do something like this, a small notebook is your friend, document your experiments!

If you do decide to spring for an upgraded vid card, there are many good choices in either nvidea or ati for about a hundred dollars.

Good luck and welcome to EQ2!

EQ2 killed my Dell, I think I had an ATI card and slightly more ram. Was too much for it to handle. I went with Alienware, no problems now. =)

I have a geforce fx 5500, but a slower processor, and less ram than you and the game runs great on my computer.
