To the quitters because of exchange serversFollow

Eclipse,

The mere fact I bothered to post here, doesn't really support your arguement, that the cash servers have affected me. It simply proves I occasionally have 8-10 minutes of boredom at work, and like to read boards. Again, let me state this: Whether or not they create these servers, will not determine if/how many continue to do this activity...it will continue like it always has...let me repeat that...ALWAYS has. With SoE dipping a hand in the profits, they are (IMO) simply taking there share of something that is being bought, and sold, that was created "by them". They have a right to do so, and are doing it. If my server remains non cash selling, it does not affect my gameplay one bit..because people on my server already are buying items and characters with real cash, so HOW is SoE legalizing it on a separate server going to affect me any more than it is now???

It won't.

Here's what I think.

SOE is going to have one or two exchange servers that I won't have to play on if I don't want to (and I don't, not after what happened with the economy of FFXI after it was flooded with gil sellers...)

The people who are into this kind of thing will all (hopefully) go to these servers. The other servers will be left alone, and maybe be less populated by plat sellers.

So does it bother me? No, I don't care that much what people do with their money as long as it doesn't ruin my game...and since the servers are going to be seperate and I won't have to play on them... *shrug* I'm not going to flip out about it.

The reasons why I quit due to the exchange thing is pretty simple.

This isn't a few years back where you're only other choice for mmo fix was UO. EQ2 has a lot of competition, and most of them offer the same fun factor.(WoW, guildwars, and tons more on the horizon) I'm not missing out on any fun, I'm just having it elsewhere.

Please, don't think of it as a hunger strike type thing.

I didn't like the direction the game was heading with sanctioned virtual property selling. I don't support it, and didn't like the idea of any of my subscription money going into its development. Therefore I cancelled, simple as that.

I don't really have a problem with people who feel the need to waste cash on virtual items to get ahead. What I have a problem with is the people who use the game as a job and disrupt play because of it. Please folks, if you want to make money online, take up day trading or something. Just by trading off of momentum alone you'll make 10x the amount of cash you would leveling up a char to sell to some lazy sob. If you want money, there is quicker and easier ways to do it than to mess around with my recreation time.

Don't get me wrong, I support your decision to leave the game for whatever reason you choose, it is entirely subjective and there is no wrong answer. But this element of your argument doesn't track.

The people that choose to play this way can only disrupt your game play if you also choose to play on an exchange server and given your dislike of the concept, I don't expect you would ever choose to play on one of those. (I know I wouldn't.)

It has been stated in numerous places by numerous members of SOE management that 1) no existing servers will ever be converted to exchange so no one will ever be "forced" to play on one and 2) that no character on an exchange server can ever migrate off of it and furthermore, that no character can be imported there with money or any dropable items.

So they have, in effect, developed a closed ecology... nothing salable can get in so no one can farm elsewhere and sell there... and nothing gets out so no one can buy there and then transfer to a "clean" server.

I don't care for the concept either, but at least in their scenerio, the general population is protected.

All that said, I wish you luck in whatever world you do choose to play in.

Its good to hear people not too concern about it start to post, when i wrote that message, i was taken for a freak and got banged by the loud community, i know i am always exagerating my comments, but thats the way to do it if people are to answer. I may not be the best at arguing my point in a second language but at least people reading the board now, maybe thinking to play one day wont just have the point of view of the people quitting the game :)

your post made much nonsence to me. comparing the DH to ES is pretty out there. Remember, the teams that the AL plays all use a DH. Its fair for every team in the league. Dont compair baseball rules to EQ/SOE rules. Not trolling, just didnt think your post was relevent. Cheers.

I dont like this idéa. The reason is that I think that everything you have in game, items and your progress in other ways, must be earned in game. If you improve your character by doing things in the real world, like paying real money for items/progress, I consider it cheating.

You might think that this is good bussiness. I can agree that it might be a good way to get more short term profit. But I´m rather certain that it will not be a good long term decision.
Companys are different and there are several ways to do bussiness. A company that is thinking long term is not less interested in profit. They just have a different idéa and a different policy. They want the game to grow and get more customers. They want it to last and expect it to be big 5 years from now.

The reason some companies go for short term profit can be that they are under pressure to be able to show a good result lets say 3 months from now. And they cant afford to think long term.
Or, in this case, it could be that they are giving up and want to get as much profit as possible before it´s too late. I almost get the impression that something like that is happening. Perhaps they feel that the game is not growing as they expected and hoped it would. And think that instead they must do whatever they can to get more money from existing customers/players. Even if it will make things worse long term.

Regards!

ok, pardon the n00bness, but I really have no clue WHAT these exchange servers are. I haven't been keeping up with the news of EQ having quit a while back, but now I want to rejoin just when it seems we're all in a fit over this new thing?

So what are these servers and what about them makes people so mad?

The Exchange Servers will be dedicated servers where there will be a official way to buy and sell virtual items for real money. Other companies like IGE already conduct this business, and Sony has been against it...until now.

If you have your character on those servers, you will be able to buy uber gear without ever having to work or quest for it.

It has been a long established tenent of online games that this is considered cheating and unfair. So understandably folks are upset.

However the results of the online poll show that 1/3 of folks don't want it, another 1/3 want it, and another 1/3 don't care. In the world of online game development, 1/3 of a player base that wants something is significant.

33% is very significant, and i wanted to clarify something. Often people have in mind that SoE will be selling items, the way i understand it, all the items and platinum sold will be by players and sony will only grab a cut or buy it low and sell it high.
I dont think they plan on creating items and pp, at least they havent mention it. Now as for uber items, items have level restriction so unless you are already top level, only spells and furniture and box and things like that will have a market ( i havent any high level character but i guess thats about the only thing worth something in eq2).

Even if you buy 100pp, you wont have nothing to spend them on.

Agree there are level restrictions to the equipment. But with a significant amount of money, I could always have the best (level permitting) equipment, Adept III in all spells and skills, and the best horse.

All this would be a significant advantage in adventuring and make previously impossible encounters, possible.

Being a casual player and 39 Conjurer, I spent nearly all the gold I had (75g) for a much required Adept III pet upgrade. All my gear is now con green or below, except for my staff which is orange.

When I get hit, I get hit hard with frequent interrupts.

Fortunately, I'm at a level and zone where I can sell loot drops and make 5g-12g each session. And by putting out a little sweat and blood, I'll earn enough money to upgrade my gear one piece at a time.

Wow. If only people got this pissed off when Bush mixed politics with religion. Stem cell research.

Maybe This is just a test to see how much they would make if they dabbled in this epidemic. Personally, I don't think we'd see too much of a difference since I can think of atleast 3 different sites that sell virtual currency off the top of my head(I can only imagine there are more). The stance thing...I get it. But I would totally back it up if they kept it to a limited amount of servers. Quarantine the bastards. Even though they would still be competing against other sites that are selling on regular servers since people who buy will probably continue buying on their server since they have invested so much into their character. I guess what my point is...You can't win. SOE can't win(Unless they can seriously beat the hell out of IGE)and we'll continue seeing this throughout any game we play.

It's inevitable.
