Hello everybody,

I played EQ2 a while back ... before they implemented the big crafting fix. I just wanted to say Hi, how's everybody? Are you enjoying your game? Are the changes good or bad? Just looking for some relaxed oppinion about the game.

Hope y'all are having fun

Why don't you just read the huge EQ2 vs WoW thread Smiley: smile

Don't bother with that thread. It'll just confuse you and you'll come away with a bad taste for both games. If you were to actually read it you would find equal numbers in favor or each game and some who like both. That thread needs to go away. EQ2 vs. WoW is a matter of personal opinion - that's why there are 4## posts and no consensus.

In order to answer your inquiry you should say what kind of game you like, your playstyle and be more specific about what you're looking for.

This thread would be a better use of your time:

Well, thought I would try EQII out for myself and took a break from WoW.

Though EQII is a pretty game, there are just so many old annoyances that may send me packing off again. Almost all of these are game mechanics related. If I am lagging in a zone with less than 20 people in it while running 4meg downstream, on a 2.08ghz, 1024DDR RAM, 256Meg NVIDIA Card, and can barely keep the warrior alive because his life bar bounces up and down more than a buxom anime GIF and I am spazzing around like a mime on crack, what is going to happen if I am on a raid?

The game has great potential, though if it can live up to it or not, is another story.

I really don't get the point of housing. I mean if it actually did something aside from being a money sink or if it was actually a HOUSE, and not just a door that a multitude of other people also use to go to "their" house, I could understand it being in the game.

On Gathering, why do I find figs in Plains Fungi, but find Withered Mushrooms in Shrubbery? Why do I need Chloro Resin to plane a peice of wood? I was a carpentar for many years, but never had to use resin to plane a piece of wood. Alot of the Crafting, while nifty and complex seems to have no correlation. Why is it that I can purchase candles, coal, distilled water, and other refined products, but have to craft a piece of string?

The whole "Locked Encounter" business has me confused also. Suddenly I cannot help someone because they are in danger? Of course they can always yell for help, but as that will make the xp gain and possibility for treasure null and void, many just opt to run off. No longer do I get the satisfaction of making a last minute save on someone I just happen to run across when they are in need. Kinda makes the whole point of being a paladin or a healer moot. Now I must group with anyone before I can cast a benevolent spell of any type on them. No more drive-by buffing, no more acts of being a good samarita. Kind of takes the good out of good deeds.

While there are more quests, they also seem to be of the generic type you find in any MMOG, take x item to y NPC, kill x amount of creatures of y type, though I have to admit the "visit different places" was kind of a new twist, but got boring after a bit. You can only run aimlessly around Antonica for so long before the realization that it is a stupendous time sink hits you.

Guess it depends on what you want to do. I feel it is great for one of two things: RolePlaying or Crafting. If either of these are what you are most excited about, then EQII will be great for you. But if you want any kind of large scale, grand adventure..I just don't see it happening, just because the game mechanics cannot support it.

Housing does actually do something Smiley: grin

You have a 2 slot vault in there, put in a couple of large boxes, fill them up with goodies you wish to sell. Then buy a market board and stick it up on your wall. Voila, 24/7 online/offline selling!!

It's also fun to furnish your room and a great place to store your completed quest books and trophies for bragging rights.

Oh I have a pet cat too which is pretty cute but you wouldn't be interested in that Smiley: cool

One note: Just saying a 256mb Nvidia could mean anything and a huge variance in game play. Is that an Nvidia 2, 3, 4, fx5, or 6 series. Huge huge difference in performance. I am currently using an Nvidia 4 ti4200 128mb card which works fine at high performance. I am going to upgrade soon. Probably to an Nvidia 6600 128mb since it such a bargain for the price. Maybe a 5900 off Ebay if I find a good enough deal. My friend uses a 6600gt 128mb and it is awesome in EQ2.

Also a huge difference in processors. I had an AMD 2400 that worked fine. I just upgraded to an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 939 chip. Really big difference.

Ummm...because they are attacking your settlements outside of Qeynos proper and killing humans? Also if you get within visual range, they attack you...I find those to be several good reasons to kill Gnolls.

Figs come from trees, not fungi. Mushrooms are a fungi, not something that grows in tree-like plants, not healthy ones anyway.

I am running a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra for a vid card. AMD Athelon XP 2800 processor, perhaps not state of the art, but I would have thought it was enough.

Ah...so THAT is what housing is good for. Thanks Bluie, an actual constructive reply. Seem to get those so seldom Smiley: grin

The main idea is to prevent PL'ing and KS'ing, which I support but not adamantly. While I understand their thinking, I play a healer because I like to help people and I really miss not being able to save someone I run across who's in trouble. It wouldn't be impossible for them to let us do that but not open up PL'ing.

This is my idea, Sony:

If you cast a helpful spell on a non-group member, you can't cast another one on that person for 30 minutes, maybe more. That would allow us to be drive by saviors but keep PL'ing out.

I should /feedback that or something. They seem to be listening to people with all the competition nibbling at their lunch.
