Hey everyone! You're all quite helpful, so here's a couple more questions:
In order to craft my Adept spells for my Artisan recipes I need to get ahold of some Lapis Lazuli or Copper! However, in my mining trips within Qeynos, I haven't found any of this yet. So does anyone know where's a good spot to find it? Do I need to venture out into Antonica? How far do I need to roam?
Also, after that I'll need to start on my Adept spells for my Scholar recipes, which require other things I don't have yet: Maple, Tubers, Silver, Coral, and Tetranoids. Any idea where these can be found? I'm going to guess I definately need to go into Antonica for these - but that's okay if I do!
I am not, however, interested in buying the parts...I could do so, but I'd rather save my funds for equipment. =)

Here's a link with the tiers, nodes, and zones.
Unfortunately, there is no "one-spt" to get rares. They are very rare and random finds. I've been harvesting since the game started, and I have found only 1 rare.
For upgrading, you can at least get Adept 1 spells that are affordable, 1g and up depending on availability.

Copper and Lapis Lazuli are tier 1 rares as far as I know. That would be places like Oakmyst Forest, Forest Ruins, etc.
But they are rares, 1 in 2000 or something like that. Don't expect to get a ton of that.
Maple and Tubers are Tier 2 common, so Antonica.
Silver and Coral are Tier 2 rares. Again, 1 in 2000 or thereabouts.
Tetranoids is not something you forage, its something you make, I believe.

At this point in time, you might want to "settle" for app 4 spells instead of waiting for the rares with which to make the adept versions.
Upgrading to app 4's will still give you a huge boost over your current app 1 versions and they don't require the rare harvests.
Also consider that many of the spells you wish to upgrade now will soon be replaced altogether. Yet another reason not to "waste" the rares!
Personally, neither of my lvl 23 characters has yet to scribe a single rare player made spell upgrade! I have several adept 1's on each char but everything else is app 4.

Hmm. After reading into it a little more, I think going with just better Apprentice spells is a good idea (unless I can manage to find an Adept 1 for sale that I can afford). So with that in mind, how do I make an App 4? I heard it had to do with making the App 3 pristine quality...is that correct?
Correct-a-mundo! App 4's are just pristine app 3's.
And here's another tip for you... depending on which adept I spells you're looking for, you might find them cheaper on the "black market" merchant. Each side has one of these.
In Qeynos, he is in Qeynos Harbor, standing in a small room that can only be reached by taking a quick swim underwater.
He has everything for sale that is on the Freeport broker and charges you an additional 20% surcharge for the service.
Even with this 40% total markup, many items are cheaper than you will see them on the Qeynos broker. This is because many spells dropped around Freeport are for good only classes, (like ranger or swashy).
So, if you can take advantage of this, you can get some really good deals. I once found an Adept I my ranger needed for 17s. The cheapest app 4 on the Qeynos broker was around 60s so I was real happy!

Yea my conjuror is near level 45 and I only have 1 adept 3 spell, and that is one of my older (now obsolete pets) I am currently working on getting my newest pet upgraded to adept 3 though.
I have found lower level spells you are better off with app4. As mentioned above they will soon enough be replaced anyways.
