I've been hunting giants now for close to 4 hours. I've only needed a just a spirit for about 2. Is this quest broken or am I just incredibly unlucky to get my final drop?

I have had this happen to me on alot of those quests (siren atm for me). I have found SOMETIMES you can delete the quest and start over and you will get the updates quickly, othertimes it doesn't seem to help. I know when I was doing the elemental lore and legend I killed close to 300 elementals trying to get my final update. I finnally just deleted the thing and started from scratch and I bet I didn't kill 15 elementals and I got all 3 updates.

I hope this helps, but I swear I think they are just buggy.

Yeah, I agree with fronglo. This happened about 3 months ago when I was working on the orc master. I had all but the spirit... I killed so many of those darn orcs. Someone suggested to delete the quest and start over. It was more than 15 kills but it was done in about 20 minutes.

Knowing this I have never "studied" any of the piece needed for the lore and legend untill after I get those three top elements. That way if I think it is bugged I can delete the quest and not worry about having to do the whole thing over again. Just wait till you get those three automatics then I usually have all the other part to study.

I am about the restart the siren one myself too.

Occasionally, it seems the collective parts of mastery quests, if collected early, are un-identifiable after the fact. I had collected all parts of nightblood mastery, before getting the book. After getting the book, i could not identify any of the parts, so had to sell, and recollect. As far as getting stuck on an auto-update item, I've had it happen with several I did, I simply just left it the way it was, and eventually got the update, as you'll see plenty (in different forms) of most of the types all the way to LS, and EF/PF. There will be some mastery quests you WONT want to simply delete and start over, as the droppable parts don't seem to drop often.

I think they may have stealt patched the mastery quests recently. I had the Gnoll quest for weeks and the centaur quest for a while too, and I never got the top three pieces that don't drop but ding into your invisible unlimited quest inventory. I had killed many of each since starting the quests. Last weekend I suddently got all three Gnoll parts from a few groups and all three centaur parts from one mob.

I had the same problem with the elementals, and now with treants.

With elementals I just kept killing them and eventually I got the update.

So deleting the quest isn't necessary. Think about it, lets say you were about to get the update, of course right after you delete it, you get the update and you think that its related. But if you had gotten it you wouldn't have felt compelled to delete it.

In other words, coincidence.

Personally I would suggest just sticking with it, you'll get the update eventually.

I agree to stick with it. I got the gnolls mastery quest at 12 for my Pally. Killed gnolls forever and nothing seemed to happen. No update after about 1000 kills. Then I hit 21, was soloing my AQ1, and lo and behold, update, update and update. All three in one group.

It has to be just a random chance, and maybe some are just as unlucky as I was. I have heard people getting all the updates within 30 minutes of getting a mastery quest. But I just ignored the incomplete quest in my journal and it happened when I wasn't trying or focussed on it.

Good Luck and keep grinding away.
