I am copying this from my post on the sticky about what we'd like to see for this site and starting a new post specifically for updating the Allakhazam EQ2's item and beastiary database for missing data and links:

I am thoroughly disappointed with the EQ2 section of Allakhazam's. I have been a premium member of Allakhazam's for a long time. My member name was Bemidian for years while I played EQ. I switched over to Jorakal when I started other games like DAoC and WoW. For DAoC I sent hundreds of updates and saw them implemented. EQ1, DAoC, and WoW have up-to-date specific info for items in the database. This is the main reason I use Allakhazam's. To look up items. To do advanced searches. To find specific item and bestiary data. In otherwards a database with links to be able to do research. The current EQ2 site does not have current detailed info. The most current posts seem to be missing the most basic data from items. I just looked up an item by name. A sword. It did not even have what type of sword it was (2 handed).

I just started playing EQ2, and of course went to Allakhazam's because of my past experience with this site. What a disappointment.

I'd like to know what I can do to help update this site? I've read a lot of the other posts asking for additions to the site. This is not my concern. I need the basics first. Item and bestiary info. Links for what mob dropped what item. What items came from which quest and a link to that item. And why is there no advanced search for items? I can't even search for a specific weapon type or armor class by slot? I'm not even sure submitting data will do any good since it seems that the basic fields, that other Allakhazam's game sites include, are not set up in the database?

So again please let me know what I can do. I'd be happy to submit screen shots for all items and NPC's/beasts I encounter. I can submit info for tradeskill items. I can submit data for linking items to quests etc etc. I see the submit email address is for Allakhazam. Is this accurate since he does not play EQ2?

I would have to agree with this post. I am a long time Alla user, and the EQ2 side of things is ... well, sad. Get "Your Characters" working, get advanced search and wish lists working, please.

I can only agree! I too was a long time and enthusiastic supporter of alla....but the implemenation of EQ2 site is woeful compared to what else is available. All the tools seem to be in place as for EQ1 but very few of them are working reliably or at all(Search, Characters, cross links, basic item info.....).

I didn't renew my subscription last month because theres just no point if you rarely use the site because others are doing it better.

I would have to ditto Ifin. When I was playing EQ1, there Allakhazam's was the first (usually the last) place I came (except sometimes for my bard). It was also the first place I sent other people for any and all information about EQ1.

Now I only pay EQ2. As at least the previous posters on this thread have said, I am disappointed too. I have started using another site (don't want to post it out of respect) for my research, bestiary, and quest type information. This other site has just about all I need... like Allakhazam's was for EQ1.

Well, dispite my disappointment, I obviously still frequently read the message boards for EQ2. Alas, even here it is a far cry from the mass activity I was used to on the EQ1 message board of Allakhazam's.

I wonder if the problem is that who ever fed this site with all of its information for EQ1 over the years are just not doing it for EQ2. I also wondered if it was because EQ2 was so new (cough cough), but again, I have seen lots of wonderful information on other sites.

Well, I will keep coming at least visiting the message boards.
enjoy

I'd be happy to and am ready to feed Allakhazam's all the info I come across as I'm leveling characters from scratch. I just want to know if it will do any good.

I posted this on Mar 16, 2005.

"Allah and the Development team,

I do not mean this as a flame on you guys, but what the hell is going on? I signed up for premium membership about a month or so ago. The only differance i notice, is that my bank acount seems to be losing money. There is nothing special on the site for premium members. I was a premium member for EQ1 and you could search quests, and items and beasts so much easier with so many differant filters. For EQ2 there is no special filter and I still have to hunt through a bunch of stuff that I dont need to be going through. The "Your Characters" section has been comming soon for a very long time I imagine. on the Quests, the "Advanced Search" is no differant than if you were just a regular user. Do you guys plan on changing this stuff anytime soon? I understand that EQ2 hasnt been out that long, so there is not nearly as much content as there would be for EQ1 or FFXI or some other games, but damn the system should at least be in place so that when the content gets here, its easy to search through. I came back to this site after not playing for two years, because this was the best site for game info, i just want to know if you have plans to upgrade the membership features and when?"

and the reply i got back from an administrator was this:

"Quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Must say i fail to see where you are getting riped-off, dont get the feeling he is trying to cheat you, if you dont want to support the only good info site since Ogaming was bought by ige, then dont pay.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "

that was almost two months ago, and not a damn thing has changed, for the other games, Allahs site is the best hands down, and i would happily pay, but for eq2 it just plain sucks, so i took Lord Buk's advice and i stopped paying. when it gets up to par, i would be happy to support Allah and his fine staff again, but why pay for a bunch of features that dont even exist. To be honest, it shouldnt be that hard to fix. Take the same base platform and make some minor tweaks, but then apply it this portion of the site. If they did that, i bet they would find the submissions would start rolling in. Maybe im wrong and it could bring the whole thing crashing down, but im pretty sure they have the code for the entire engine saved somewhere. I seriously only come here now for the forums, there is some good info in them and some good people too.

Maybe if an admin would give an update, let us know what kinda changes are comming and when? that would probably help the situation a lot.

The main problem we are running into right now, is the fact that WoW and EQ2 came out at the same time. WoW allows, and specifcally sanctions the use of an automatic data collector. EQ2 specifically does not. This leads to two main problems.

First, we only have a certian amount of coders available. Since we have more data available for Wow than we do for EQ, and since we have so many more WoW users than EQ2 users, it gets more programming time. There are things in the works, which I will get to in a minute

Second, since we have to collect things by hand, things come in slower, and the classification takes a bit longer. we are working to improve this. The big push is on the item database at the moment. we have added thousands of new item entires in the past few months, mostly tradeskill related, however the existing search tools do not yet make use of the increased classification capabilities. We are working on this.

Things we are working on:
we are in the final stages of releasing a tradeskill recipie database, which ties into our item database. You should see this operational sometime in the next few days.

Mapping: we are working on adapting the wow style maps to our EQ2 location data. this is a longer term project.

"your characters" - I do not know what the current status of this is, I will however find out

Advanced searches: expect to see upgraded searching capabilities in the next several weeks. If you have any suggestions that would be particularily useful to you, please send them to me

The Item database statistics have changed completely several times since game release. Every time we start getting a handle on it, they change the way the stats are calculated, and we have to start over again. It is frustrating.

The really frustrating thing for me personally, is that in some areas we are ahead of the curve, we have more quests, verifiable mobs, items than some of the competition (and yes, they do beat us in other areas), but we aren't making effective use of the data we do have. Expect this to change in coming weeks.

Anyways, that's where we stand at the moment. If you would like to contribute data, pictures, etc to the site, you can send them to allakhazam@allakhazam.com, or direct to myself at kaolian@allakhazam.com. You can also reach me via PM here in the forums fairly quickly. Please feel free to send on any questions, comments, ideas, complaints, etc that you may have. they will be looked at.

We do have a ways to go yet, I'll be the first to admit it, but we're heading in the right direction.

As a side note, Banter, I don't know what admin you PM'd, but we do not have an admin bukholt, and I don't have a record of a PM from you to myself.

Thanks for the update. The EQ1 board is awesome. I just want this one to have at least the same basics. I'll start sending anything I encounter that is not listed, doesn't have correct data, or no picture.

I would first like to say to Kao, that after reviewing my post from last month, Bukholt is not an admin, i jumped the gun for some reason or other on that, it was my mistake, and i do apologize.

I would also like to thank you for your responce and honesty as to the situation. it is good to know that you guys do have stuff in the works. thank you.

Is there a specific preferred format/rez/size etc. for sending pictures? Also any specifics regarding data? Do you want a pic to back up the stats submitted?

I plan to clean out my existing screen caps tonight and start collecting for you this weekend!
