Lots of people talk about ^^ in reference to mobs. What exactly does this mean? Something to do with named/heroics?

Group or heroic mobs can be strictly the color listed or they can be 1 or more arows up or down. An up arrow means they are tougher than a straight color mob and a down arrow means they are weaker. So, if you're lookin at a ^^green mob, he's really almost a blue... On the other hand, if you con a vv green mob he's really almost a grey!

For reference, there is a named Drakota around somewhere that is a ^^^^ 2-group mob. He cons bright red at lvl 20. Now that is one tough Ramma Jamma!!!

OK, maybe I'm being thick-headed, but when I'm looking at a mob and it looks green to me, how can I tell if its ^^ or ^ etc etc? Thanks for clarifying what it means, but I dunno how to tell the ^^ yet (doh)

His name tag will actually have the ^^ in it... for example, it would say A mob^^

I can't remember for sure but this feature might only show up if you have your con system switched back to the old version... I think that the whole heroic mob system was "scrapped" in favor of the new "simple" conning system.

You can switch things back and forth in options page...

taken from Feb 17 patch notes:
Quote:
- You can switch between the old system and the new one by selecting the User Interface tab on the Options window. Under the Name and Chat Bubble heading, you can toggle the NPC Evaluation drop-down between Simple (new system) and Detailed (old system).

OK... that's probably it. I only play the game at my bf's apt for now, til I get a new PC that will support EQ2. I have no idea what his settings are on, but it evidently is the new system since I had never seen the ^^s before.

Thanks!

I think SOE put it in so you could have mobs appropriate to your level [i.e. spells and capabilities] but with enhanced health/power so you'd need a group to take them on. But you also get better exp and I'd rather face a single yellow ^^ then four blues.

Kinda nice really. Better than FFXI where it's usually experience [painful at that] which tells you which mob isn't really following it's colour rating.
