Lots of newb questionsFollow

#1 Apr 22 2005 at 3:26 AM Rating: Decent
Is it possible anymore or did they eliminate that? I know I can share items but I have't figured out how to share money, or if it's even possible.

Second question, how do I sell at the broker? Is it something I need to unlock? I notice a lot of people selling from their home, how is that done?

Anybody else have problems with their bag placement? For example, I have my backpacks, I position them for optimum viewing when I have them all opened together. I log out and come back later and all my bags are all over the place. I tried the lock option under the windows and it still happens. Is this a bug or is it something to do with my computer only?

Well, that's all I can think of for now. Appreciate any and all help.

TIA

Sorry about the cryptic opening of my message. My header was originally "Is it possible to share money between characters?" but I changed it. LOL. So, the first line looks unfinished.

1) The easiest way to share money is to mail it to your alt. You could also hand it to a friend, (someone you trust), through the trade window and then log to the alt and have the friend give the money back to the alt the same way.

2) You can't sell from the broker, you can only buy there. To sell from your room, just purchase a bulletin board from a local merchant, (the merchant in the inn where you live should have them), place it on the wall in your apartment and you're ready to sell!

Put your stuff in boxes in your room vault or in bags on your character. you can sell from the boxes even when you're off line but to sell from your character's inventory slots you'll have to stay in the room and in the game.

You can use the interface in the bulletin board to set prices and also to browse the market and check out the competition. There are seperate tabs for character inventory slots and the room vault slots.

3) No, it's not a bug. bags move around... it's just something to get used to. After a while, I just got in the habit of opening up and adjusting everything when I first logged on. After you do it once things stay put till you log out.

Awesome, I love the fact that you can sell offline and from your room. As far as the bag problem goes, I just got spoiled since i'm coming from WOW, but I can get use to it. The mail deal, I completely forgot about mail in EQ 2 since I played EQ 1 and didn't think about EQ 2 having mail. I know WOW has it, but didn't know EQ 2 had it. That's good to know.

Thanks again for your response, you answered my question last time as well.

What about transfering stuff between good and evil alts?

Can either...
1. get a second person to swap in trade window as above (but will have to get to lvl 20 first as need to cross thundering steppes and nek forest to be in the same place)

2. Inflate the price of something crappy on the market and get your rich alt to buy it (like tuber strands for 10g or something), but then you instantly lose out 40% on trader profit.

Any other suggestions?

That's a good question. I've only played good alts but if I ever want to try playing the other side I wonder if it's possible to fund the evil side characters.

Then again, with only four character options, i'm gonna want to play four good characters and get four different useful tradeskills so I can cross support my other characters.

I think a four character limit without paying extra is stupid. I know, off topic.

You can mail anything (cash and a bog of goodies) to any other character. Doesn't matter if they are good or evil.

But since you can only mail 1 bag at a time, you will need to do several mailings if you have a lot of stuff to transfer.

Complex question but I'll try and boil it down!
You can transfer anything in person so if you can bring the two characters face to face you are good to go.

I don't think you can mail items or cash between sides. Seems to me that when they set up the mail system, it specifically limited you to text between Qeynos and Freeport. (But I could be mistaken.)

One clever way to move stuff from one side to the other is to arrange with a friend, (or 2nd account), to have one toon standing in front of the black market merchant while another character puts up items for sale at VERY low prices.

This is best done late at night and also while using an additional form of communication, like voip or the phone.

For example, your friend (or 2nd account alt), stands in front of the black market fence while you place an item you want to "shift" up for sale for a copper or two. You are both in voice contact and so are in sync with each others actions. The item hits the broker, your friend runs a search and buys the item. SHAZAM! Rinse and repeat!

The safest way to do this is very late at night and while using voice com to confirm all your actions in real time. Even with these safe guards, there is a risk that some stranger will see the item hit the market and scoop it out from under you! Never the less, it can be done...

BTW - kcaee... do you know where to find the mail boxes in your town? They are tall thin structures and look kinda like a wooden phone booth! Should be one in your home village.

May the assumptions be disspelled!

Good can't send Gifts in the mail to evil or vice-versa. They can only send regular messages. Trust me, I've tried several times hehe

OK, cool... I'm learning here. I thought good couldnt even send evil messages via the kiosk.

I belong to a guild that primarily consists of Freeport citizens, and I'm in Qeynos so it would be nice to know how to send them mail. I thought we couldn't communicate thru mail at all, gifts or not.
How do you send someone mail in Freeport if you're in Qeynos? Just type the name and send it? Or do you have to do something special?

By the way, here's something to note if you're planning on selling things:

Different items,as you'll see, will sell for a wide range of prices. Some are due to availability of these things, and some due to individual pricing. You'll want to make sure you pay attention to the classification of an item you harvested before setting the price.

For example, if an item says no value that means you want to make sure you don't need it to craft with in the tradeskill instance. If not, others may use it commonly in their tradeskilling, making it valuable to them. Check the broker to see what it's selling for, and set your price based on that.

Treasured items can be sold to NPC merchants for various prices. Heh, 'treasured' doesn't mean you'll make alot of coin from it, but some is better than none I'd say.
*** Not all NPC merchants pay the same price for goods so it pays to check different ones so you'll know where you get the most for your item***
You may opt to sell on the broker rather than to an NPC for more than one reason:
a)because sometimes you can get more money from a person who needs the item rather than the NPC
b) you benefit other players by providing them with an easy way to obtain items (for example, they run out of something while tradeskilling and don't want to go harvest for just one or two things).
Whether you will profit more from selling to an NPC vs vending to other players thru broker depends on how flooded the market is with the same item by different vendors, as selling is competitive and people will alot of times try to undercut on prices, which is GOOD for the buyers :D Try to find a balance when selling items between what the NPC would give you and what a player is willing to pay for it. I recommend NOT charging prices that you know are unreasonable but at the same time, will make a profit for your efforts.

Lore items can sell for more than treasured or no value items. Again, this is relative to how flooded the market is with the item on the broker. However, it isn't law that lore items be worth an exorbitant amount of coin.

Legendary items are gonna be the ones that are rare drops and rare harvests. By examining each item when you obtain it, you can plainly see its classification (no value, treasured, lore, legendary). As a rule of thumb: you don't want to destroy any legendary item for sure! Sometimes you can get several gold for one rare harvest/drop.

Hope this little guide will help you as you start out with vending. Since I've started selling items, it's such a nice feeling to enter my Inn Room and hear the cha-ching that lets me know I made money while I was out adventuring or offline! Makes harvesting so much more enjoyable when you know it isn't for nothing just cuz you didn't get something YOU needed. Smiley: waycool
