If you are scared by the elitism it will create on these server... dont play on them.
They wont implement it on all server, and i can see non-exchange server will get better than they are now, there will be much more money to make on exchange server where most of the player base is receptive to the products that people sell. While on non-exchange servers, even if in the end there is only a handful, people wont be receptive to the idea, thus the sellers of items wont make money and leave the server alone.

Its all great news imo, planning to stay on non-exchange server

As long as it is restricted to special servers then fine they can do what they want. I personally will not spend real life money on a game item. I know some people say "well you pay $15 a month so whats the big deal" The $15 a month is to be allowed to play the game, That doesn't mean your paying money to earn gear. When I get gear I want to earn it by slaving over a tradeskill device, or by selling items found from quests and mobs.

Yes it does happen on every server, but it is still somewhat restricted. Its like saying "Well people buy illegal drugs every day, so lets just make it legal."

If they allow this on my server I will drop the game in a heartbeat.

The thing about this that worries me is the re-sellers. You have seen it done before, where there is only a few of an item coming into the market and someone is buying all of them and selling them at an inflated price, forcing you to buy from them. Hell, within reason I've done it, but I don't usually have the bank-roll to keep a monopoly. I've never been a jerk about it, and if someone sends me a /tell I always hook them up.

Now look at companies like IGE. They have the bank-roll and do not know the meaning of words like "Within Reason". There is nothing stopping them from inflating the market.

Example: Take the Glimmering Tooth. Used in the manastone heritage, gathered via T4 trapping. The average price is 30g right now, but if you look, there are a couple for 40g from the same person. They are obviously trying to monopolize the manastone quest part.

Now flash forward a year, when items like that will be going for RL $$, and IGE buys all of them for "X" amount and re-sells them for (Inflated) "Y". There bank roll is nearly limitless and can and probably will be employing people (or using bots) to constantly buy them the instant they hit the market for a lower price, thus forcing people to barter among themselves (personal interaction is not a bad thing, but ruins the broker system) or gather the resource themselves.

SOE will love re-sellers though. Think about all those "Small handling charges" that will happen. Twice on re-selling, once when the item is bought and another when the item is re-sold at a higher price. Isn't the fee based on a percentage? Yet another bonus for SOE.

With this news, I have seriously been questioning SOE and my relationship with them, and if these changes ever happen on my server, I will quit.

honestly that's what I thought too and I went home last night and logged in and thought to myself: I'm supporting a company that is endorsing cheating...

this, if it goes live without contention, will create a devistating precedent in the gaming industry... Station Exchange not only needs to be stopped, it needs to be CRUSHED utterly, totally...

I suspect as long as they defiantly stand by the implementation of SE, my time in this game is limited... I just can't do it... I can't send good money knowing the company is fully in favor of not only endorsing cheating but profiting from it...

My opinion is certainly different from most of yours but oh well.

This absolutely works for me. I will patronize this service considerably and I don't think it's "wrong" Basically you'll have two types of lvl 50's

The ones who can afford to spend time enough to do it legitimately and likely couldn't afford to buy a character if they wanted to.

The ones who can afford to spend money to do it illegitimately and likely couldn't afford the time to advance a character if they wanted to.

The symmetry is enough to make me weep

I have both the time to level up and the cash to buy any number of toons and/or gear that I want but there's no way in hell I will ever spend a single cent of RL cash that way Smiley: mad

I barely have any time at all to play this game, but I won't be buying items with RL cash any time soon. I prefer to earn it, I get more satisfaction out of it.

It's so ridiculous that people take such a personal offense to what other people do with their time and money. Some kids playing don't have to work, have tons of time to invest on massive 8 hour raids and spend every waking second getting items that anyone with a RL job having to work for a living and dealing with other things could never have. Then some who work don't have the time yet have the money and should be able to use their resource to even the playing table. Of course kids that don't have to go to work are going to whine about it. Bah, take the computers you bought them away and revoke their accounts, wouldn't even have em if nobody worked for a living.

Really though, I just don't get the animosity. I remember in EQ1 when I was deployed and got way behind, guildys and friends of mine helped me out with equipment, I didn't earn THAT equipment. Did it bother me? Nope, should it bother you? Only if you group with me and think I don't know what I'm doing, otherwise what's the point of whining about it?

I'm sure there are other soldiers deployed who haven't had the time to check the game out yet might want to and might not want to start so far behind everyone else (like in EQ1, tell me there's a way to get into the plane of time if your not in some uber guild playing 20 hours a day).

I think that it is great that SOE is taking the initiative to offer many players what they have clearly wanted for a long time. There is a very sizeable population in support of this even if they are not the most vocal. There has been an uphill battle being waged over this issue since MMORPG's began and it has gone nowhere in that entire time. Why should you not be able to profit over something that you have spent a lot of valuable time to achieve? Basicly, the developers have been telling us all along that our time is not worth as much as their time. There are many great players that simply do not have the time to camp for an item for decades. Rarity of drops is what really kills the fun for a lot of people. There are many reasons why this service is good and only personal views on cheating why it is bad.

^^Excellent point about the deployed soldiers. I'm in the military as well, and many people don't realize how our lives are entirely put on hold while deployed. Time stops for us when we are gone, but everyone else keeps moving forward. When we return there is always a bit of shock on how much has changed in our absence.
