lost in FreeportFollow

I am a newb! I haven't been a newb in years. But here I am. Lost in Freeport.

I arrived from the Isles last night. Did the citesenship quest. I find the whol game a bit on the dark side. Brightness dark. It seems as though it is always nightime. I decided to do some exploring into other parts of Freeport and wound up getting lost. I can't even remember the name of the area were I have taken residence. I assume that I need to go back to my place of dwelling. I spent an hour hoofing it around the map trying to find something that I might recognize. Nothing! How do I find my way home? There was a quest near my dwelling that I would like to take on.

And while I am at the newb questions...
Why are there cat and dogs running around with names? Are they part of some quest?

Are there any websites that have maps of EQII?

I just thought of another question to add to my previous question. Is there anyway to turn off the message in red that my inventory is almost full? I am assuming it is referring to my bank inventory which is full. My personal inventory only has two bags and they are empty except for food and water. Since I am new to the game I have no idea if I will be needing the things stored in my bank. Mostly things that were foraged (gahtered), fished, or hunted.

As for the sites with maps I found those. See my webpage and check out the EQ sites. Scroll down to the bottom for some EQ II sites. If anyone knows of a hot one I am missing please let me know.

hello,

I would like to make two suggestions that may help you. First of all check out this eq2 guide

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0761545026/qid=1113540853/sr=8-2/ref=pd_csp_2/102-0566855-4945761?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

It has lots of character/class/quest info and maps for most zones.

The next thing i would suggest is going here http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board?board.id=Newbie

for posting questions or trying to find info.

hope this helps some.

If you have done your citizenship, then just click Call of Overlord (something like that) hotkey. That will zone you back to your home town, then press alt+w, select the inn and following the funny lights.

If you havent done your citizenship, then you can tell which town you should be in from your class i think. Gnomes are temple street - i know that.

as far as the video darkness goes, I had to adjust the gamma settings pretty high or else the game is so dark it's unplayable..

course with a little gamma slider it's just fine...

now, being in freeport the place is *dark* in other ways, but I enjoy that in a way.

When you look in your inventory, look at the picture of your character. I bet on the bottome left, there will be an item. This is your overflow slot. Once you take that item out of your overflow slot, the message will go away.

The cats and dogs with names, as far as I know, are just there to look cute and wander around.

I am starting to figure things out slowly.

I have another question though. The few times that I have grouped with people and there seems to be little or no communication. I make suggestions and ask what they want me to do and get silence. Only once did I group with someone who actually seemed to know what he was doing. He suggested I pull and he heal which made perfect since considering our classes. I have also used the /ooc, /say, /tell, and /shout commands to get only silence. I had one fool who kept inviting me to group with him. The first two times I gave him a tell and explained that I couldn't but thanked him. He gave me 3 more invites before he got the hint.

I am only up to level 13 but have only been playing outside of the Isle since the 13th. I had also noticed this same trend there. Do people just not talk back and forth in EQ2? It's not like there is never anyone in the zone I am in either.

There seems to be a fair amount of chat in /ooc in zones like Antonica and Commonlands.

But it can take a while to make friends in a new game. At the lower levels there are still plenty of people trying to figure the game out who haven't cottoned on to the world of communication that has opened up to them. And yep, it's annoying when they remain dead silent.

Hang in there, and when you meet someone who seems ok, put them on your friends list so you can invite them to group again another day.

I wouldn't spend money on a game guide from Amazon. You can get everything you need from the web.

Here's some useful links:
Maps
Quests and spells here or quests here.
Crafting

To get a group, put up your /lfg tag by typing, "/lfg". You will see the tag appear over your name.

You can also click it on/off using the icon at the top left of the screen. It looks like a yellow exclamation mark. Next to it is a yellow magnifying glass. That brings up the LFG window showing you who is lfg. If you want to look for groupmates, bring up the LFG window, select "this zone", and you'll get a list. You can also sort it by level, name, and class.

I agree the city can be pretty quiet. Once you move out to the Commonlands, there will be plenty folks talking and lfg'ing.

Your job in a group will be pretty standard, almost identical to EQ1. If your a Fighter class, you'll tank. Healers heal, Scouts and Mages are DPS.

I've been in groups that said almost nothing, and they were all business. Very fast pulls with very fast exp gain. Other groups have been more social, and much slower.

You may also want to look into joining a guild. Make sure you interview many folks, asking them about their guild to ensure it's one that suits you.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the hints and tips.

I have put together an EQ II webpage with some links on. Check it out and give me suggestions. I have several pages dedicated to the original EQ and I am always looking for new stuff. I mostly just put the pages together to help out my family, friends, and myself. I can never remeber links or places so I found it easier to just put it on my webpage for later use.
