Just bought the game.Follow

Hello citizens of Norrath!

I bought the game today, and I am wondering if there is anyone out there that would like to have me join their server and guild.
I am looking to jumping right in and grouping up with some good folks and forming some close relationships. I will be a fighter archtype, eventually going guardian. I am gonna tank all the way. I will hold your agro! Anyway. If anyone is interested let me know so that I can get this game off on the right foot. I have played all other major mmo's, so I know a little of how these things work. I feel I will be a nice asset to any guild.

I know this seems like a sales pitch, but I am just looking to the future.

Thanks a million,
Avias

Welcome!

Unfortunately, your value will be directly related to your level and gear for quite a while. You could be the best player to ever hit the server but you'll still be driving a > lvl 10 naked toon!

I would suggest you not worry about joining a guild at this time. There are quite a few things you will need to get used to before you can be considered an asset, either to friends or strangers.

Roll up a character, experience the island, begin learning to craft, get a handle on the combat system, get a handle on the quest system, get off the island and earn your citizenship, learn your way around your new home, do your level 10 class quest, make your level 10 crafting choice... Depending on how often and how long you play, these simple tasks can take you a week or even longer.

It's easy to group without being in a guild... and not being in any guild at all is WAY preferable to being in a terrible guild!!! Besides, joining pickup groups will let you develop a style without any strings or responsibilities. And when you're ready to join a great guild, one will find you!

Good luck and have fun!

I am sure it is different on every server, however on Grobb server as a DPS (caster) I have hardly ever get pick up groups. At lower levels getting a group isn't too bad, but once you get into the lvl 30 to 35 area pick up groups seem to be harder to find. I am lvl 42 and I would say the past 2 levels have just about been strictly guild groups.

However like oldblue said at lower levels I wouldn't worry too much about it. Have fun, solo and do all the quests you can on the isle and in town. Both Freeport and Qeynos have tons of various quests you can get from various npcs. Many of them are simple stuff like running 10 foot to the bank and then running back.

...and while you are out in your pick-up groups, see who has a guild tag and ask them about their guild. Here are some things to ask:

- What are the goals of the guild? (Raid, casual, role-playing, family, etc. If you cuss like a sailor you would not want to be in a family guild, nor would they want you.)
- Any meetings or events? Any madatory?
- Does the guild have a web site with active forums? (go check out their web site before joining. Review the forums.)
- How many members?
- What's the level range? (if everyone is 45+, it may be hard to find group mates)
- What is the main time zone of the members? (If you are in New York, it would not be good to join a mainly Austrailian guild that is asleep when you are on, and vice-versa)
- What kind of Artisans?
- Do guild Artisans support guild members with discounted or free items? (They should)
- Are they recruiting?
As you can see, being in a guild is more than just having a guild tag above your head. Joining a guild that ends up not supporting you or never seems to be around can be frustrating.

Also keep in mind that a large number of members will mean more people on, but may not indicate a quality and organized guild. Too many times I've heard, "/shout Want to join a guild? Defenders of the Cupcake recruiting everyone, PST!"
Good guild almost never advertise they are looking for members.

Guild members will also observe your play style and attitude to see if it mesh's with their guild. You do not have to be a veteran, but you need to be alert, know your skills, and be polite. Immaturity and flaming will turn off any recruiters. TALKING IN ALL CAPS and shouting all the time is just as bad. Cool-heads, smart play, and a sense of humor will attract recruiters.

Just like fish in the sea, there are as many guilds. So be selective in which you join. You'll be glad you were.

Good Luck!
