New Artisan on the block!Follow

#1 Apr 04 2005 at 5:28 AM Rating: Decent
Hi Everyone! I"m new to the artisan trade, but am learning quickly. I hoped I could ask a couple of questions about issues that plague me in the course of the game.

1. What kind of bags do you use to store all of the stuff you harvest? I stayed on the Isle of Refuge until I made level nine as an artisan, but this same issue has plagued me since I started. I could not make larger than a 5 slot backpack on the isle, so I'm simply curious what bags you are carrying, and where/how you got them?

2. At what level can I specialize? I'm playing a cleric at the moment, and wish to be able to create armor & spells, in that order. I'm level 10 cleric, and still a level 9 artisan, fyi...

Thanks in advance!

1. Remember that you must have a pristine item as the primary componenet to make a pristine product. If the bags made on IoR had a less than pristine primary componenet, you will be capped.

You can always buy them at the broker, there are many people that sell them for relatively cheap price. There are also a few quests for bags. One is Bootstutters Guide to Antonica that will give you a 10-slot bag. The quest starter is a mob drop from critters in Antonica.

I made 3 bags of my own, bought the rest. 3 are 6-slot, the rest are 8-10 slot. Get the biggest bags you can afford!

2. Level 10 is when you will pick your next specialty. Keep in mind that you cannot pick more than 1. And the higher you go, the more you specialize. So as a level 10 Scholar, you will be able to craft spells level 10.

Kind of like, once you are a cleric, you cannot also have Ranger abillities.

Your adventure class progresses separatly from your artisan class. You could be a level 10 Cleric and a level 45 Sage, but not also a level 45 Armorer.

Reminder:
- You will get your durability buffs at level 10 artisan.
- Once you make level 10, you must go check in to one of the tradeskill societies. That's where you'll find your next set of recipie books for purchase.
- Craft each new recipie to pristine at least once. You get significant exp bonus for that.

Good luck!

As a level 9 artisan, you are about due to go and declare the profession you would like to continue to advance in. Your XP will be capped at lvl 9 until you make this choice.

In Qeynos, the guy you would need to talk to is in the building that is under construction near the water in Qeynos Harbor. I don't know who you would talk to in Freeport.

Your choices at lvl 9 are Scholar, Craftsman or Outfitter. You will remain one of these three for the next 10 levels and at lvl 19 you will speak to another NPC and choose your final speciality.

Scholars can become Alchemists, Sages or Jewelers.
Craftsmen can become Cooks, Woodworkers or Carpenters
and Outfitters can become Weaponsmiths, Armorers or Tailors.

After you choose a speciality and reach lvl 10, you will receive tier 2 buffs for all three of the options in the area you have chosen.

When you reach lvl 20 and have made your final choice, you will receive a single set of tier 3 buffs for your chosen skill.

Although you are required to specialize in one profession, you can also learn to make items required for your craft but outside of that discipline.

There are 4 cross over arts called Weaving, Timbercraft, Apothecary and Geomancy. Books for these skills are available in the T/S instance where you do your work and will allow you to make sub-combines without having to buy them from other players.

So for example, if you are a weaponsmith, by using timbercraft, you could still make the wooden shaft for a pike and not have to buy it from a woodworker. And as an armorer, you could use Apothecary to make the tempers needed to refine metals into heavy armor without buying them from an alchemist.

Remember that you can also craft boxes for storing things in your bank inventory slots. Boxes tend to have more slots than bags of the same level so they are a better bet for bank and room storage. Only Carpenters can make boxes from tier 3 and upward but any craftsman can make tier 2 maple strongboxes, (12 slot), and anyone can make tier 1 elm boxes, (8 slot).

Very nice to know! I have made elm strongboxes to fill all my inventory slots in my bank for a couple of my toons and have been wondering how I can get extra slot space... sweet! Smiley: yippee

After reading this thread, I attempted to make Tier 2 maple strongboxes, unsuccessfully. I purchase and scribe every recipe I am able to use and I have no recipe for Tier 2 maple strongboxes. Are you sure that everyone can make these items? If so, can you please check your recipe book tell us which recipe we need to scribe to make this item? Thank you.

Not anyone... any craftsman. This excludes scholars and outfitters... Craftsmen are going to specialize in cooking, woodworking or carpentry.
