Independent and Dependent Rxns?Follow

Ok, I just started playing EQ2 3 days ago and i'm lvl 11 outfitter and I thought I had the hang out tradeskill until i read the guide at (eq2-tradeskills.com). Now I am confused with it's explanation of Independent and Dependent reactions. How do I know if the creation is going to use one or the other? Do crafting some objects require both independent and dependent counter-rxns? Just a few questions I thought you guru's could help explain to me and other noobs. I'll appreciate all responses!

Barbarian,
Soon to be Paladin,
Soon to be Armorer,
Airix

Airix - lvl 17 Barbarian Crusader, lvl 11 Outfitter

** Send me a tell on Kithicor Server if your want to trade/group/xp/quest **

Basically..
If I am a tailor but I want to be able to forge Carbonite bars I have to buy a special recipe book so I can. You will use different counter icons than would a weaponsmith who normally posseses the skills to forge bars.
Look through your icons for counter-skills and examine them. you will see that they use different skills.
