The best character to play is the one that sounds like the most fun for you. Characters are very evenly balanced in EQ2, all can solo or group. Maybe healers are a bit more sought after for groups but don't play one if it's not your thing, just choose your fave type.

As stated above it all depends on your play style and what you enjoy. Please ignore the post saying this game isn't for noobs. Some people lose their brains at the most opportune times.

It's all about what you like to do. Group or solo? High damage or good tanking ability? Do you like playing a healing class?

Damage:
Wizzy/Warlock
Any scout class
Necro/Conjurer

Tanking:
Any fighter type

Healing:
Any priest type

Utility: (defined by myself as something other then the basic beat it up or heal it class)
Enchanter
Bard

Discussions rage on regarding what class is the best healer or what class does the most damage. Fact of the matter is for 99% of things in this game any Healer will do, any damage type will do and any tank type will do. It's only when talking about lvl 50 raid mobs that you really want a specific tank. Other then that you will be perfectly good for groups regardless of what class you choose.

Don't hope to get a long pointless thread full of people flaming each other for their opinions.

Trawl somewhere else.

I've played a Conjuror mostly. Also have a Necro miving up the ranks. I enjoy that class. I also have a cleric and fighter and scout. Most of my time though is spent on my Necro gonnabe as of late. My Conjuror is 26 and my Necro is 16. I've found it's easy to solo with them. Hope that helps. =)

there someone actually understood the question i asked..thanks anyone else have the brain capacity to put together a decent response, or all of you to busy trying to get over yourself. w/e buncha jackasses

how hard is it to just answer a simple question
#10 Mar 29 2005 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
I don't think anyone is trying to be a jackass, but asking which class in EQ2 is the best to play is the equivalent to asking people which food tastes the best.

see, this is the problem i have with writing or starting a thread.

all i asked is what kind of character you think is best, insted i get

these responses do not answer my question

i am asking for an opinion on what character you feel is the best in the game, if you cant answer this then move onto another thread

its an impossible question to answer. if there was one 'best character' then everyone would be that character.

also posting in caps is not good.

I think you are the one that don't get it. There is no best character in EQ2. Every class is balanced. If you are looking for the BEST char to play, I highly recommend you go to WoW...:)

what is YOUR, that you the reader, what is your opinion on the best character to play in the game?

no one looks at this game and says i will pick a neutral character because im sure they are all balanced equally. i will make up my character at random. Im sure they are because all online games work torwards balance.

look at it this way if someone asked me what i thought the best baseball team is, i would not say, "Well, they are all balanced, that team has a few power hitters for homeruns but, this team can manufacture runs." they all score runs so that makes them equal and balanced. They are not all my favorite teams because they are all balanced. if i was asked my opinion id say, Atlanta or new york, etc. is the best and this is why. See now that wasnt so hard. I didnt say go to little league or go play fooseball, i gave my opinion because someone asked it.

So far 2 people understood this question, me and the guy that told me about his character.

but some of you are so involved with reading your own words you forget what this is about.

So, what do you think is the best character and why?
#16 Mar 29 2005 at 11:15 PM Rating: Decent
Illusionist is the most fun for me because it is never boring and I can take on different roles depending on the situation.

OK, now that you have the whole "I'm a hostile rebel" thing down pat, maybe you could try working on acting like a human being. I know it's a big stretch for you but give it a shot...

Personally, after reading the entire thread, including your lucid and pithy commentary, I wouldn't answer your question if you offered me a bull that pissed Jack Daniels in exchange.

And since the majority of the folks here don't seem to be as clever, witty and intellegent as you seem to think you are, why don't you take your craptastic attitude somewhere else... like the surface of the moon!

Oh, yeah... one more thing... you said you're "thinking bout playing this game"... do us all a favor... go back to diablo and be a hostile sk there!

Diabloesk, if you are looking for the best character in EQ2, none exists. I do not choose a char to play because it is better than others. Likewise, even in sports people likes a team not because it is the best. "The best" maybe your creteria for making a choice but not for a lot of us here. We choose our char based on what we like. Those that like huge dps choose to play wizard or rogue. While others like to fight the mob face to face choose tank. And neither choice will give you "The Best" char. If it exists, it will get nerfed very very fast....SOE is well known for that...:)

Is that too hard for you to understand? If you really want to know my favourite choice... Troll Ranger ...Da Best Da Rulezzzz.... :)

You asked a question, I responded to it with some info about the different type's of classes. I even stuck up for you a little bit. But then you go and flame me for it? **** off.

If you want to change your subject mid thread thats fine. But don't get pissy when you didn't get the answer you wanted because you don't know how to ask a question. God I hope you don't join my server.

see, there a few more people are telling me what i asked for, i was getting worried most of the readers didnt have the brain cells to answer
#24 Mar 30 2005 at 9:06 AM Rating: Decent
Ive played one of each class, starting with most enjoyed: Kerra Ranger -> Dark Elf Shaman -> Gnome Sorc -> Barb Crusader.

But i have to say the enjoyment is probably proportional to the amount of time played on each. The classes really only come into their own at 20+. Even now, with my Ranger at 33, he's becoming more tempting to play as ranged skills increase and ive got some good looking (and decent stats) armour. So whos to say that if i took the fighter into 30+ i wouldnt enjoy that the most..?

So i could real off why i think my Ranger is the best, but there really is no point, because i dont even know if im telling the truth - hmm, im starting to flame myself :-(

Do as the guys suggest, try a little bit of each. Put your fingers in all the pies and if you like raspberry pie have some more. I like melons, but some people like plums - it doesnt mean youre gay.

Am i warbling?

Ok i'll stop.

Easy enough, probably the Yankees, would determine if you were asking which team was the best based on World Series titles.

Could be, because there have been approximately 1.5 billion posts on this subject, just in the last 4 years alone, in eq1, and now in eq2.

Honestly, the glaring question here, is why do you care what we think? You have met no one here, probably never will. Our opinion is semi valueless here, because you could just as easily play eq2 and not even enjoy the game itself. It has happened on occasion. I wasn't flaming you. Yet, now I have very few brain cells, along with some others, according to you. If your in-game attitude is similiar, I agree with an above poster, and stick with diablo2, where a crap attitude is not only accepted, but encouraged. Here in Everquest, it will just ensure you are soloing, and receive little help. If you buy the game, the basics like most other game types like this are: fighter, spell caster, scout type. Try one, see if you like it. If you don't, delete "said" character, and try a different one. Very simple actually.

I think the problem here is that the OP didnt ask the question the way we all would like him to have. If he had asked "Which class that you have played do you all personally find the most fun" If he had asked it like that, there would be no confusion. Instead, asking which we think is the "best" isnt going to get you anywhere. There is no such thing as "best" in EQ2 due to SOE's fetish for balancing. Even if somehow a class became "best" it would quickly get nerfed because, well, we just cant have that. That being said, I very much enjoy being an Assassin, I do crazy damage, and I can sneak around higher lvl zones and nothing can see me. Makes shard retreival a hell of a lot easier. I also have alot of fun being a Warrior. Taking the damage while trying to control the aggro, as well as dish out the damage is fun and challenging. So basically it still comes down to what you like doing. Try them all, if you dont like it, quit, and try again. And unless your in-game attitude is alot different than it is here, your looking at soloing the whole time because no one wants to group with an as*hole.
