I was planning on trying to make me a char in EQ2 cause I'm a bit bored with just playing SWG. I like grouping, but sometimes it's nice to just be able to solo for a bit. So, I was curious which of the mage types have the best survivability while soloing? I plan on being based in Freeport, so that probably has an impact on my choices. I don't really have any preferances when it comes to types of damage, pets/no pets and such, but I do like being able to solo decently without getting pouty cause of dying too much.

I play a Warlock(just dinged 20). I solo mostly, but have a wizzy friend I duo with a bit. Honestly as a sorcerer I died a fair amount, but was still able to solo fairly well. The sorcerer route is probably one of the toughest solos in eq2, but it can still be done.

The best solo classes in the game, at least IMO is the Tank classes. I am lvl 43 conjuror and I still can kill a ^^ green mob for the life of me. I have adept 1 pet, most spells are adept 1 or app4, and gear wise its all orange and yellow con. Pretty much they just eat through my pet and I either lose my pet or a get aggression from overhealing pet. And I would guess I can take anywhere from 2 to 5 hits from a ^^green mob. So needless to say if pet loses aggression im a goner.

However I have seen Guardians, Paladins, and Shadowknights not only solo a ^^ green mob, but solo 2 of them at the same time.

Without having played any other mage classes, im gonna take a bet Necro is the best solo'er.
Ive just dinged 27, and the further you get in the game, the more you learn to combine his spells, the better a soloer he gets...
For instance ive soloed Gustfeather as level 26. He was blue^^ to me, and i won about 75% of the time.
All my spells are adept I or below, except for Dust blast adept III, equipment is yellow-orange.
The trick is to take it slow, let your pet build up agro, keep it alive with heals, use you DoT spells well, and have plenty of power.

That way you can solo almost any foe...
The problem comes when the enemy is in groups, but thats another days lesson...

Soloing depends if you want to take on group^^ or solo mobs.

Remember that just because a mob is a single green^^ will not mean you can solo it. For those, you will typically need some help. There are many solo mobs throughout the regions, especially since the last round of patches. TS got a bunch, Zek too.

In Zek I can take on a blue solo mob while I root/DoT another. By the time my second root has expired, my pet (Level 24 pet Adept 1 - the rock pile turns into a golem) is done with the first mob and ready to take the second. That is about the extent I can reach. I've tried to take on 3 at once, but that usually ends up with a yell for help and me sprinting away.

I can take on a group of 4-5 greens, just because they don't land too many hits.

I frequently take on green^^, white, or yellow solo mobs. 5 stacked DoT's really add up DPS. :) If I get agro, I Petrify and back away. The pet will build agro and I am safe once again.

Onagracea has some good advise. To add to that, always use the best drink you can afford. That will ensure you have fast mana regen.
