What Class?!Follow

#1 Mar 25 2005 at 6:36 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all. My brother ordered Everquest2 and it looks AWESOME.

One problem: I dunno what class to be :(

I like the idea of Paladin and Shadow Knight because they get to ride a horse.. thats pretty cool. But are they any good?

Berzerker sounds like a good choice because it has a huge DPS and it can tank well.

Guardian sounds like a hard *** tank. Lots of def and health.

I only really want to be a tank, not a priest or anything.

So can I have some pro's and con's about each of the classes listed please?

Ok first off, all those classes are good tanks and can solo as well as group.

Guardian and Zerker can be good or evil, Pallies are obviously good and SK's are evil.

The horses (level 20) add about 10% to run speed as well as looking cool.

Guardians are aimed towards the defensive side and Zerkers are offensive. They can both duel wield and use bows. Pallies and SK's cannot.

All 4 classes can use shield and 1H and 2H weapons.

Looking for someone to be MT, Guardian or Zerker would be chosen in preference to the other 2.

Oh and Pallies can heal a bit and get rez at a highish level.

Really it comes down to your own play style, just choose whatever seems fun to you.

Mhmm.. Cool thanks. Why would Guardian and Zerker be picked over SK and pally?

Guardian is supposed to be the MT for groups because they have the most defensive/taunting abilities, highest hitpoints and mitigation. Zerkers are the flip side, they focus on offensive so have higher DPS than Guardians and also make great tanks.

SK and Pallies have lower hitpoints and damage mitigation but they can tank well also.

I believe zerker has the most taunting abilities (generate the most agro for single or group mobs), followed by guardian then the rest of the tanks. So might want to keep that in mind when playing a zerker that is not on MT role especially on group of mobs. A lot of zerker skills are AoE attack. With Bloodlust on, even firing an arrow will trigger off AoE attack that do 50-100 damage to all mobs with just tin arrow. That is at level 24.

Pretty much agree with the rest.

God I hate threads like this. People all hop onto their own individual rant proclaiming how amazing one class is over the others instead of giving the information he needs.

Here is the best awnser you will find.

ALL FIGHTERS ARE THE FRIGGIN SAME IN THEIR ROLE IN A GROUP

No one fighter is better than other fighters at something. The only differences are the style of play.

Wanna be a crazy kung fu master? Be a Monk
Wanna be a back alley thug? Be a Brusier.
Wanna be the pimp in shiny armor casting healing spells? Be a Paladin
Wanna be the scary *** dude in black armor casting evil spells? Be a Shadowknight.
Wanna be the crazy battle-god who goes berserk with an axe? Be a Berserker.
Wanna be the brute in thick, heavy armor and a ******* huge shield? Be a Guardian.

That's all you need to know. Group's will pick any and all for a tank.

Just a suggestion, but why don't you try them all, or at least a few. You get 6 character slots, so you could try them out and stick with what fits your playing style the most.

One thing you will find is that they all amount to the same in the end, but each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

Can a crusader/shadow knight use any kind of ranged weapon?

i would agree with most of the posts above. one thing to consider is, if u plan on playing to end game, i bit of planning is in order. i just turned 50(zerker) and have joined a raiding guild. many of my friends picked guardian because they wanted to be the best tank possible. i always MT'd when we were growing up simply because of the zerk roleplaying attitude(killkillkillkillkillkill) which works great for grinding. now that i am 50 tho, i have happily passed on the responsibilities on to guardians friends because they really are beter at defense. the problem with them is, guardians are not verywelcme on raids. my guild(and most out there) already have their "raid tank" set up, so when all my friends got to 50, no one really wants them on raids cuz they are relatively low dps compared to zerk, monk bruiser. so if u plan on playing till end game. i would recommend a more dps fighter so u are still useful if u ever decide to raid.

Go with a shadowknight. Go with a DPS build. This means going down the INT AA/AP line. I personally like the STA line also. I recommend equiping them with legendary player made devout plate. It will boost your STR, INT, & STA. Go with a good one handed weapon, a shield, and offensive stance. You'll want to fill your charm and jewelry slots with gear that increases your AC/MIT and INT. 75-80% of our damage comes from spells. Our power poll comes from STR & INT. Lastly, insure that your spells are upgraded as much as possible. Upgrade your stances, ward, and lifetaps to adept III or master, at least.

This build will allow you to solo like a god. You will also be able to tank well if needed. Where you'll truly shine in a raid, though, is as DPS. With this kind of build, you'll be able to get into any raid. You will be putting out some serious DPS.

Even with all of this, you still need to know how to play the class well for people to pick you up for raids and such. Pick the class that suits your playing style the best, and then learn to play that class well.

Somebody suggested making one of each tank class. That's a good suggestion. You can make a new tune and level it to level 20 in one good day of grinding. Within a week, you would have a really good assessment of which one would fit your playing style best. For me, it's the shadowknight, hands down.

Pick what you want. I play an SK. When it comes to tank, people dont care what class you are as much as how well you hold agro, and what your mitigation/HP are. Youll find that more important then anything esle.

Pick a class that has a description that meets your needs. As a crusader you cant use two wepaons at once. You can use some bows, and any HP you might lack from the guardians, you gain in the ability to heal your self in different ways. I went downt he STA line for an SK, and enjoy tanking all the time. I lack DPs that a zerker has, but I tank over zerkers, so im alright with that.

Youll be able to buy a horse, or fly around on a carpet in higher levels, so dont worry to much about that.
