Armor Level RestrictionsFollow

How do I determine the base level of a new piece of armor. I find I can't wear some things offered in a quest and can't figure out why.

The armor is correct for my armor type (light armor).

My armor "skill" is capped and doesn't seem to go up.

Yep the various armour skills (light, very light etc) are capped to your level and go up 5 points per level, so you can work out when you will be able to equip something.

Ok, let me try to be more clear. I'm a level 9 scout. My "very light armor" skill says 47/47. My class can wear Medium Armor but I don't show a light or medium armor skill at all.

When does my armor skill progress from very light to light to medium? Is it purely my level that dictates this?

Second, how do I determine the base level of a piece of armor that I can't wear yet? I've read that I can wear a piece of armor if I'm within 5 levels of it's base level.

At lvl 10 the scout class gets light armor. At lvl 20 you will get medium armor. The skill of light, and medium armor will automatically max out to your current level, you don't have to build it up or anything.

Depending on what subclass you choose you may or may not get medium armor, but if its going to change I imagine lvl 20 is when it will change.

No actually, it cannot. The class you will someday become may be able to wear medium but a scout is restricted to very light. your next step is preditor bard or rogue and all three of these can wear light armor.

Beyond that, many of the sub class choices you will make at level 20 will be able to wear medium armor, but until you hit lvl 20 - you might as well leave it in the rowboat with Fredo because it will be red to you!

And to determine when you will be able to equip it is based off of your level and the minimum skill required for that piece. If you examine a piece of armor and it says

Minimum skill required: 100 (light armor)
Maximum skill for mastery: 150 (light armor)

This means you will be able to equip the armor at lvl 20. (100/5). This also means that at lvl 30 (150/5) the armor will max out to you and you will be recieving the maximum benefit of the armor possible. All the above posts on armor type that you can wear are correct.
