Magic Weapons?Follow

Hiya all, I'm an old EQ vet, but still a EQ2 noob. I was wondering about EQ2 weapons. EQ had mobs that couldn't be attacked unless your weapon was listed as "magic". I was wondering if EQ2 was the same way. I play a caster, so don't pay much attention to weapons. I was asking cause I usually duo with my roommate who's a ranger. Almost every time we fight a named "immune" pops up every time she hits it. I find it hard to believe that every named mob in the game, no matter how low the level, is immune to all melee damage, so I was wondering about the weapon.

If they do have a similar set up in EQ2, how do you tell? I've seen some really expensive weapons getting sold in /ooc, but none actually say "magic weapon". Or is there another reason why she can't successfully attack anything important?

If it helps she's a 21 ranger dual wielding with a pair of blackened iron daggers. Thanks in advance for the info.

I have not really seen any type of flags for weapons. I have however found certain enemies are immune to certain types of attacks. Like for instance I found a named crab in antonica and the rogue was unable to land a hit with his daggers cause it was immune to piercing damage.

I was grouped with a melee character (forget which type) in the Commonlands the other day. We had deceided to hunt some wisps N of the X-roads and low and behold, this character could not hit the wisps (lucky us, we had an Enchanter {me} and a Sorcerer {not me ;)} blasting these wisps. Our Sorcerer offered a crafted weapon, as crafted weapons aparently hit these mobs. I can not attest to the accuracy of what I am suggesting, just thought I would add my 2 copper.

I believe the examples above coupled with my experiences in the game are showing that mobs arent immune to all Melee damage or all spells in this game. However they can be immune to a particular type of damage such as piercing or poison damage. All melee type classes should cary around at least 2 different types of weapons with them for these occasions. Casters get a free ride because it's not like they can buy new spell types.

For example, I was in the crypt of betrayel with my bruiser and a group of friends. We were wandering around looking for a particular quest mob when we came upon some named skelleton and a few of his friends. I was using a set of dual wield knuckles that apparently were slashing type damage and I couldn't hit the skelle to save my life. This really sucked because I was the MT. Fortunately, I dropped the knuckles in a bag mid combat and went to bare fists. No luck. Then I pulled 2 ebon quarterstaffs out of another bag and I was in business.

Another tip, for Dual weilding toons. Your attack skills seem to use the primary weapon you are using as a modifier for the attack. i.e. while i was using the knuckles I couldnt land kicks or anything. In the process of swithing items I noticed that switching the secondary did not change my attack success. Only when I changed the primary would it change my base for the attack.

Ok, i can officialy confirm that certain nameds and other mobs are immune to attacks from weapons that are not quested/dropped/crafted. Most nameds needed for quests are not immune, but nameds that just drop things, I.E. shadow serpent and High cheif whatever on the isle.

The immunity we are talking about here is due to "Non-attuned" weapons. If you have a generic "non-attunable" weapon, you will not be able to hit some mobs.

What if you have an attuned weapon and still can't deal damage to the mob, even if the weapon is orange and said mob is blue? ;) This happened to me with the Creeper in the Down Below.
