Question about a duo tank...Follow

#1 Mar 19 2005 at 8:10 PM Rating: Decent
Hi. I just recently got EQII because a friend of mine told me that it was the greatest MMO that he's ever played. (and so far I'm loving it too) He's a level 11 Bard, and I made a fighter so that I could tank in our duo party. But I can't decide which final class would be best for us. I'm looking between Guardian and Paladin. If any of y'all could give your personal opinions, or some general pro's and con's of each choice, I'd be very apreciative

With just the 2 of you, I'd suggest Paladin as they can heal.

Having no healer, you'd be better off with another hybrid like a paladin so you can heal yourself. The best duo combos are probably offensive tanks with a healer. A zerker/cleric two-boxer in our guild has duo'ed his way to 40 both. I've seen sk/shammy combo do well too.

I don't think a scout/tank combo would be very effective, but I haven't played enough to verify that. You need to be able to absorb damage, put out damage, and heal damage. The bard/tank combo lacks in the healing department, but maybe bards get stuff to compensate (I don't know what bards can do in this game).

As a mainly Paladin player, I think you are overating our 'heal' abilities. Paladin's are still fighter/tank class. Our heals up to level 22 (my current so all I know for certain), are strictly minor. LayingOfHands is a great heal, but it's strictly for emergencies - 30 minute resuse timer, and our other heals are trivial compared to a real healer.

Fighter/Priest is pretty much the only duo that works. Given scout, scout/priest may be the best of a bad bunch - templars get to wear heavy armour, so they can tank a bit ( I Have a 20 templar alt too - I've had great fun tanking in a group of 3 healers a scout and a mage, but not terribly efficient).

Otherwise why not open up your duo to others? Its a social game after all. The real minimum group is Fighter/Priest/Damage, where damage can be either of the other two classes. As you will hopefully be playing with more than just the two of you, I'd suggest picking a type that appeals to you, rather than just being "useful".

Thanks for the quick responses guys, they're a big help.(Though it's a little discouraging to hear about the gimped healing)

I know this probably needs to go in a different forum, but since y'all were such a big help on the last question I'd figure I might as well ask. I've been experianceing some performance problems when I play (horrible lagging, inability to log in, etc.) I was wondering if you have any suggestions on fixing it.(All my system requirements are above the required settings except for my RAM which is the minimum).

Ram seems to be the number 1 necessity to play this game smoothly. EQ2 actually causes a memory leak in your computer. Every time you zone you loose some memory. The only way to clear this out without buying more ram is to simply log all the way out of EQ and back in when you start having trouble. That resets the memory allocated to EQ and gives you a fresh start.

I had 512mb ram and was having these problems all the time. It was driving me nuts. I could zone 3 or 4 times and then I would have to log out to clear it. I then upgraded to 1G ram and I have no more problems. I can zone 1000 times and I won't experience lag.

So a temporary solution is to just keep logging out. The permanent solution is to buy more ram.

Thanks. I figured that's what it was. I had been saving up to get some upgradesfor the comp anyways and this shows me what I need to put it in ^^
