EQTraders is the place for all your questions about tradeskilling.

To begin tradeskilling on the island, talk to the guy on the first floor, just inside the mage's tower. Once you get to Qeynos or Freeport, join the wholesale society in your home village,(it will look like a cellar door in the ground and there will be a guy standing next to the door who you can talk to so you can join), then go downstairs when you want to work.

All recipes are available in books you can purchase from the NPC merchant in the tradeskill instance. You can also buy fuel and other items from this merchant. (On the island, the dwarf merchant near the arch where you begin has the books and all the fuels etc.)

Good luck and happy crafting!

It's also worth noting that for your first 9 levels you will be an Artisan and be able to make a little bit of everything. Try all the different craft tables to see what you really like before making your next choice.

As of a recent patch it seems you can no longer buy shaped quality items from merchants, nor can you by alot of the secondary items such as fossil fuels, washes, etc.

I must say Id recommend NOT being a tailor. I am really upset with SOE over all the changes they have made. Alchemists can sell tier 1 spells for more then I can sell tier 3 armor. Right now Tier 3 armor is selling for about 20 silver each on my server. Why would I want to spend 50copper per fuel and hours of my time making stuff up for that little bit of money? Friend of mine makes a ton of gold each night selling tier 1 and tier 2 spells/skills. I can't even sell tier 3 armor for nothing. People are just too scared to upgrade armor since they have to attune everything. and 50copper a fuel for tier 3 adds up very quick.

I completely disagree with you there, Frong. I am currently tailoring and making a good living at it. Even after having to make all my own WORTs, I can still turn a good profit for the time invested.

The change to attunement seems to have had no effect on sales on my server. Over the weekend I sold about 12 gold in tier 2 tanned leather armor with each piece selling for about half a gold. I am currently transitioning to tier 3 items and don't see much competition there either, in fact, I am often the only tailor selling tier 2 goods.

I don't doubt that you are having a tough time but this could be due to the level of competition on your server or any number of other things. So, I don't think you can make a blanket statement like "Don't be a tailor, you can't make any money". (Paraphrased)

Have you tried selling pristine tier 2 goods? I realize the combines will be grey to you but the XP isn't important here... I'm suggesting that you can make a living being a tailor.

I don't know how you do it oldblue. Im not saying a tailor can't make money, Im just saying alchemist.scholars make ALOT more for the same amount of work.

My friend is a alchemist and they are selling tier 1 spells for about 50 silver, tier 2 spells for 1 gold. On Grobb Server Tier 2 armor goes for about 10 silver to 12 silver (12 silver on the legs and BP). This is assuming you can sell the stuff at all. I have had a pristine tanned Breastplate on my trader for 12 silver for a week now. I also recently made a alt, they are lvl 19 now. I went to look for some light armor for them and found the tier 3 light armor selling for 20 to 30 silver each (the easy stuff, no leggings or BP). It takes just as much time and money to make tier 3 armors (between making the patterns, sub combines, etc) as it does for alchemist to make skills/spells, etc. Yet a alchemist can make more money selling tier 1 items then a tailor can make selling tier 3 armor (at least on my server).

I find it hard to press on as a tailor when my friend makes half a plat a night sometimes selling tier 1 and 2 spells/skills, when I end up making 4 or 5 gold a night selling the same amount of tier 2 armor. Tier 1 armor is not even worth making, might as well just sell it to a merchant. If your lucky you might get 1 or 2 silver each for the stuff. I just hit lvl 21 tailor last night, and frankly have little motivation to press on.

Maybe its different on other servers, but I watch the broker several times a day. Alchemist/scholars can make ALOT more then a tailor could ever dream of making. I have noticed you see alot less handcrafted armor on broker anymore. Its no wonder, with all the sub combines and alternate skills you gotta learn, its not worth your time to spend hours making up armor that sells for peanuts.
