Well I neglected my crushing ability on my fury , and so im sitting at like 84 crushing , with a cap of 112 . Needless to say , i cant hit anything making soloing a bit mana heavy since i have to keep nuking and dotting .
So my question is, can i get my crushing skill up by fighting grey mobs? And also , can it be any grey , or does it have to be almost green ?
Thx in advance for info .

Yes, you can skill-up from grey mobs.

I took my 30 Conjurer to the gnoll camps outside the Keep of the Ardent Needle. Purposely agro'd 2 grey groups (levels 15-16) and had about 8 gnolls surrounding me trying to hit.

As I stood there wielding my little dagger, I got skill-ups in defense, dagger, and a few others. Got hit only about 3 times for minimal damage.

Best way is if you can find a grey mob that has just enough hit points to make it a long conventional fight (no spells from you).

Hit auto-attack and go make a sandwich. As you slug it out toe-to-toe, the mob will keep missing you or hitting for minimal damage, and you'll get skill-ups all the while. :)

Just make sure you fight in a agro-free area. Nothing worse than coming back with a mouthful of pastrami to a rez window.

I can tell you at that even with your crushing maxed out it probably won't help you much. MY 32 conjuror has around 110ish crushing and anytime I solo a mob that gives me exp I NEVER hit it. When I say never I am not kidding. I have not landed a successful hit for days now.

Being a Fury you might be more likely to do some damage since your not a 100% pure caster like I am, but still the damage you do will probably be so little it will not make a difference.

Not sure how that is I have a lvl 24 Wizzy with crushing maxxed and hit quite often between casting while soloing. However I don't hit very hard mostly 6-10 but highest to date is 31 not bad for a wizzy.
Now importance of that is a different story. Every lil bit of damage helps but in some cases a pure caster should never be meleeing just because one hit from the raid mob would drop them.
Now speaking about skilling from greys it's always good to keep you defense and offence maxxed and thoughs type of skills. As it will lessen the amount of damage you take and increase the chance you dodge hits from soloing or from overcastting. Not by a huge amount but even saving 1 hp can save you some debt. IMO

The higher a mage gets, the less likely they are to hit a mob. Im a 32 illusionist, with maxed crushing ( using a 1 handed wand). I probably only hit a mobs once a fight, if that. Cool thing is, I once hit a yellow solo mob and it took 300 dmg resulting from it :P Nightmare procced then procced on itself then procced on itself etc until there were 6 nightmare procs. 310+ dmg from a mage melee hit lol.

well the main reason i want to max my crushing is because ive come across a few fights recently where myself (and usually another healer) are OOP and the fight is coming down to the wire. Way i figure it , any extra DPS at that point , if it can kill the mob and avoid anyone dying , is worth it . I got my crushing up on some greys in FG and now i hit WAY more often and it helped the other day when i was fighting giants as my group came into that exact situation. I was glad i had taken the time to level my crushing at that point hehe.
