Ok, if anybody has this card and uses it can you tell me how it does with this game on balanced? Also what would be really nice is if someone could make a FRAPS clip of them playing to give me a solid idea of what to expect. Thanks.

I run a 6600GT, and hands-down it's the best video card I've ever had. Forget balanced. I run on High Quality, then I go further by adding additional specular lights, etc. So technically my quality level is "custom". And the funny thing is that I don't even bother with over-clocking it.

I will notice video lag wherever there are a lot of people in one place, whether that's in a city, tradeskill instance, or out in Antonica. Turn a corner where there are a TON of models to render, and it slows down. But then, unless you're running the most high-end system with all the settings turned down, there's no way around this yet.

Now, that being said, I've never been a "twitch" player. I have a MUCH higher tolerance for lower framerates than many other people. I'm the type of guy that would rather see the nice shiny armor and have a split second of video lag, than have the game look like crap but run the smoothest I've ever seen it. Suffice it to say that if you're looking for a perfectly smooth experience, 100% of the time, particularly during large fights, then you're not going to get it at the high settings I run the game on, on the 6600GT. Now, I WOULD get that type of performance if I ran as low as Balanced or even lower. I'm just not willing to sacrifice *that much* video quality for a slight boost in performance.

Overall: I'm absolutely THRILLED with my 6600GT. Not only does it run EQ2 fantastically, but it eats Doom3, HL2, Riddick, etc, for BREAKFAST!!!

Incidentally, I have the GygaByte version. They've got a great cooling solution on the card, so that might make a difference over other vendors as well.

I just ordered this card this week. This is the best mid-range card that you can buy by far so don't waste 200-250 dollars on an ATI card for a similar price. Depending on the card manufacturer, the 6600 can have various advantages and disadvantages. If you want performance you will probably be better off getting the BFG version or the XFX. The BFG comes overclocked btw and performs better than any other brand but the XFX come a close second. The rest of the brands for this card are about the same in terms of the performance but there are some differences that may be important depending on what you want. If you want a quiet card btw better go with MSI, Leadtek or Asus. Their benchmarks are about the same in terms of performance. I ended up going with the Leadtek card because its quiet and cools the best out of the three on and comes with a cool software bundle. MSI also has a great bundle and I wouldn't have chosen it (even quieter) but I've hear that some people have reported problems getting it in the graphics slot due to fan size. Any way, here's a link to a review of the various cards.

I actually thought about getting that card but then I thought naahhh... Too much money to put down on a video card. Besides the 6800 has known issues with Everquest 2. And I'm not talking little issues but more like "OH Damn, I MAY HAVE JUST WASTED 500 Dollars TYPE ISSUES." If you don't believe me direct yourself to NVIDIA's web site and see for yourself. Your card may be working well at the moment but I can assure that there are many, many horror stories with that card and playing everquest 2 and Nvidia hasn't been able to fix it though they say they have been working on it for a while now. Good luck with your card. If the card is working fine at the moment I wouldn't do anything major to my system such a system restore, update Windows or replace the driver if I were you or your card might get out performed by a Geforce 5200 on EQ2.

This is rather interesting. May I ask what machines you're running EQ2 on?

I have a 1,6GHz CPU (athlon XP) and 786 MB SD-RAM and recently bought a 6600GT card and the performance improvements were rather poor; I'm able to play with a bearable framerate (quite fluently) at the "maximum performance" setting only. So I guess my weakling CPU and RAM are the problem?*sigh*

yep.. CPU and your ram are your big issues now... an ultra fast video card doesn't mean much when the processor itself cannot feed it data fast enough to take advantage of it..

they werent talking about the 6800 for who ever said they have problems with it.

and yes 1.6 ghz process speed is not enough.

Right now i have 2.6 ghz process speed
1.28 ghz RAM
ATI 9800 Pro.

I run the game on High Quality with adding a few extra lighting specs and the game runs damn good. Now of course as time goes by and the high end video cards get cheaper and the process speeds get higher and less expensive then I will upgrade. But honestly I am happy with how the game plays and how it looks with my hardware config.

From my understanding the 6800 had the same stutter issue the 6600 GT's have. I have seen some Fraps of this "issue" and from what I see it is not the card, it is the game and amount it has to draw. I never have seen a fraps of someone just running through Commonlands or Antonica with the same issue. It is always in densly populated areas and cities. Guess what it is that way in most games not just EQ2. Hell look at Plane of Knowledge with 180 peeps in there (EQ1).

I have the XFX Geforece 6600 GT AGP. It is pretty nice, just reference cooling basically, no overclocking. With latest drivers (always use the latest) I can run on balance or next level up. You do notice some areas where it does show a lower fps, but this is not Quake 3 Rocket arena. You do not need 125fps to play this type of game, you need 20 to 60 and hopefully if you can average 25-35 fps. There are some good tweak guides out to help you get the best image quality to fps ratio. I can run through all the cities even popluated without crying :)

Asus P4P800 mobo (865PE with pat enabled)
P4 2.8C Processor
OCZ PC4000 Gold EL 2X512MB RAM running dual channel mode
SBlive audio
1 WD 120GB Sata Drive 8mb buffer
2X WD expert eide 80GB drives 8mb buffer
XFX Geforce 6600GT agp (stock times)
Coolermaster Centurian case w/Antec 420 Watt True power(maybe 420 or 480)

Runs very well every game, even EQ2 1600x1200 with goodies on and X2 the threat all on :)

This is by far the most comprehensive detailed break down of the setting you should set for your bfg, msi, xfx and gigabyte 6600gt cards http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NzMzLDEw if you go here this will show you the msi and xfx cards but you can go back on main page reviews and look at the others but i think they are all the same. It tells you the card settings in game as well as out of the game and the details you can set like the surroundings and water ect ect. If you are looking to get this card or have it go check it out its well worth it :)
