Using voice in EQ2Follow

#1 Mar 01 2005 at 10:40 AM Rating: Decent
I usually group with the same people and would like to be able to talk to them instead of having to type everything.

I would like some recommendations on what type equipment can be recommended and what program(s) can be used.

I would prefer using a headset to hear them instead of speakers but not a necessity.

Thanks

I'm not sure if it's still around but I had used a product called Roger Wilco that worked really well.

The above listed teamspeak + headset earphone/mics are what we use.

One of the guys has a teamspeak "server" on 24/7 and we all just join it before launching EQ2. We have EQ1, EQ2, SWG, and Raven Sheild channels so we can have several differnt groups in different games at teh same time.

Our guild did use teamspeak before, but he had his own server and it would go down an awful lot. Then we went with Ventrilo, we pay for a professionaly hosted server which is only a few dollars. Sine then it seems that voice is much more cleaer, also always on and you can password areas, and use different channel in Ventrilo.

Outstanding information.

I am checking on teamspeak now.

May finally have a use for that old P2 notebook now running my own little server.

Also have to find anything I can about Ventrilo. May be the way to go. Is Ventrilo one of the authorized servers listed?

Does anyone have a favorite make/model of headphone/mouthpiece they use?

Thanks again for the good info.

Ok, this is a topic I know alot about being a former Unreal player.
I was Teamcaptain for Swedens nations CTF team among other things. I have used all programs you can ever dream up npnp.
Roger Wilco was the best a long time but todays new progs are 1000x better.
It all comes down to what bandwith you have.
if you have low-medium bandwith I suggest Teamspeak2 because there you have the option of making specific channels for specific bandwith. Lower bandwith settings = less quality on sound ofcourse.
However, if you have a good connection I would suggest the program Ventrilo ( http://www.ventrilo.com ).
This ofcourse if you dont plan on having more then 10 players on server. If you want more players on server you would have to buy the full version and to be allowed to buy it you would have to start a buisness. That or find the cracked version.

I prefer Ventrilo over all existing programs out there.
Using TS2 at max bandwith is not a big diffrence from ventrilo, its just that using TS2 will get you a more digital feeling. Ventrilo feels more like a phoneconference.

Most hardcore pro fps gamers use TS2 and second program is Ventrilo.
Its a matter of preferences.

Not that you or anyone on this forum would condone that kind of thing ;)

A friend and I used to use Teamspeak, but found it was giving off a bad echo a lot of the time, so we started using "Skype". It works great...with a head set, it's just like talking on the phone

I regularly duo and trio with a couple of rl friends and we started using ventrilo last night. Well, the difference is astounding!

Now freed from having to type everything you want to say in the chat window has given us the ability to move more quickly and smoothly from target to target. When you want to move somewhere to do something you no longer have to stop and type your intentions in the chat line then wait for a reply then go do the thing... you just hit the ptt say what's on your mind and DO IT!!!

In addition, not having to keep one eye on the chat box has completely changed the way the game looks and works for me.

The increased level of communication is amazing. Taking out MOBs in Antonica last night was like shooting fish in a bucket!

Personally I prefer Ventrilo.

I have use both Ventrilo and teamspeak, but I prefer the quality of Ventrilo. It has clearer sound than talking on the phone.

Another nice thing about it is you can tell who enters the room. A phonetic computer voice will tell you who came in. This can be annoying though if people get stupid with it. You can turn it off though incase they do.

I just purchased a 50 man Ventrilo Server for my guild and I pay $15 a month. If you're interested check out www.ventriloservers.biz. They had the best prices I saw and so far is performing outstanding. You can even pick between three locations for your server. New York, California, or Texas. I don't think location would mean that much if your guild is spread out all over, but at the owner can have a good ping. ;)

Goodluck

Yeah Ventrillo is nice if you or someone can ante up the cash for it. Loved it back in my Planetside days.

I have to agree that Skype is the best as far as quality. It is just like a phone call. The downside (and it's a huge downside) is that you can only have 4 people to a single conferance call :(

I've yet to meet anyone in EQ2 who uses voice, but I certainly wouldn't mind it.

Well if you're on Crushbone, our guild is starting to use it.

It isn't terribly active yet on our Vent server, but we are hoping it will continue to pickup. I am hoping people will feel just slightly left out and go out and get a headset. ;)

I went with Teamspeak and setup an old PCIII 500 laptop that was setting in my closet as the server.
It makes such a huge difference with the characters I usually group with being able to play quicker and more enjoyable. Only prob is if you also have someone in your group that does not have a headset, you can't forget about them. And that is easy to do.
Since I have the server, I can control who I want on it and I only allow people I know on it so it is a small group and well behaved.
