Ogaming owned by IGEFollow

I'm sorry if this has been posted in here before, but I am just going on Allakhazam's wishes to post this info here. OGaming is owned by IGE. Its definetly worth a look!

if allakhazam would acctually add stuff to their site, people would not have to go to any other sites (allegedly owned by IGE). Make the EQ2 site like the EQ1 site and you'll get my subscription back.

So what if ogaming is owned by IGE? Ogaming has all the info this site lacks. For EQ1, allakhazam's was my number 1 stop.

For EQ2, the only reason I come here is the semi-active forums and if I could find a really active EQ2 forum I probably wouldn't come back at all.

/sigh

No, but let me explain the difference. Microsoft is an American Corporation engaged in selling a tangable and reliable product that makes your life better. IGE is a company that employs people in third world countries to sit in a room and play online games all day and all night long so that they, (IGE), can take the money and the stuff the players get and sell it to real gamers for real world cash.

If you've ever experienced the effect that activities like plat selling and bot groups have on the economy of a game you love then you are no fan of IGE or their ilk.

before you go passing the infamous "American" judgement, which makes us all look bad, on IGE; let me ask you one thing. Do you have proof of this implied "slave labor" and if you do is it possible that, while unthinkable to you, may be a great job for that person in that third world country? Stop imposing your culture on other people! That said, this is not an ethics disscussion. Quite frankly I really don't care what IGE's business practices are, furthermore it is only stipulation that IGE acctually owns www.ogaming.com in the first place. Regardless of who owns the site, it's better than allakhazam's EQ2 site and I will continue to go there untill a better option presents itself.

You're missing the point. The point is that they do something that violates the terms of service of virtually every MMORPG on the market and profit from that by exploiting workers in the 3rd world countries. Many other companies exploit that same class of workers, and you're right, the exploited workers are likely better off than they were without it. However, IGE is not playing by the rules set forth in the games by their manufacturers. And by employing the tactics that they do, they generate much hatred and anomosity from the online gaming community.

The reason why people bring up the the fact that IGE has the labor practice they do is because it negatively affects the gaming experience. Groups of individuals that have a lot of trouble communicating with other players camp key farming areas 24 hours a day and cause hostile play environment by training mobs, etc.

IGE's point of view:
The customer [you, well ok.. SOME of you] wants it.
Our workers [OMG! Play a MMO for a LIVING!!!!] want it.

Naturally, there's that "If you don't want it, don't pay for it" argument which can go in the same wastepaper basket as "If you don't want to watch it, change the channel". [maybe we should toss in the "If you don't like it, don't mod it" argument too ^ ^]

So don't you think SOE has done something, a little right with the Exchange servers? That way, we can divide ourselves into "Those of us who buy IGE's stuff" and "Those that not only don't buy it but ALSO don't want anyone else in the server buying IGE"

As for IGE's workers being '3rd world' and all that. I KNOW there are some good old boys right here in the USA who sell to IGE. Not just suspect, I got their character tag and some other ID. Hopefully they'll be banned soon.

Thing is, it doesn't matter who they are and where they are from. It may be a bit more practical to have workers from the '3rd world' do this sort of 'work' but it's all illegal anyway, why make a point of where they are from? Does anyone here believe Songokou's** some onion-smelling peasant in some underdeveloped part of our world?

*Please don't shoot me, I've just washed my hair and I like to wrap a towel around my head. Unless you're a Vorgon.

**On FFXI's Bahamut, there's this player who either bots or has one of the fastest reactions in the game [I'm extremely sure it's the latter, and he's a very nice fellow when you talk to him] and he pretty much monopolized a particular named spawn which dropped an item worth almost a million when he started camping it. He had a large hand in lowering the price to 200k gil ^ ^.

Think about it, with gil going for $50USD per 100k, he could probably make $200 easy per day. It's a timed spawn too so he doesn't have to stay glued to the spot.

Too bad it's Rare/Ex now heh heh.
