Okay two questions: What is the maximum amount of players in a guild, and also, do PLD and SK have the slowest horses? Thanks.
I don't know about the maximum number of players in a guild, but I read on the EQ2 updates that SOE nerfed the Shadowknight and Paladin horses so that they only give a 10% speed boost, which makes them, to my understanding, the slowest horses in the game.
I'm really disappointed with that, because I plan on becomimg a Palading and I already have the J-Boots that came with the Pre-order, so a 10% speed increase is nothing to shake a stick at. It will be nice though, to ride a horse for aesthetic purposes.

Can you possibly buy/rent black horses? I just want a black horse that would go nicely with my SK.
I think the cheapest horses are 1pp and some odd gold. However you can get them cheaper if your in a guild that is level 15 AND you have alot of status points. I don't know the costs for that though.

Cheapest coin horse is around 2.5p. At guild level 15 you can purchase a tier 1 horse (24% faster than run speed) at a discount with status points. Not sure of the exact price, but think it is somewhere south of 2p.
The SK horse that you get at level 20 is black and looks pretty neat
