Seems like about all your game movies generally flop. I think the most popular has been the Resident Evil movies, and even then they are not winning any awards (least I don't think they are).

I would have thought the Final Fantasy movie would have been great. PRobably would have been popular if it had actually HAD something to do with the games. About the only thing I seen in common was the excessive use of the name CID lol.

I think there is surely some good potential for a good movie. Silly me thought they were making a movie when I saw advertisements for the game in the movie theather... I was very excited to think there was a EQ movie.

I love the new things they can do with graphics. I think it would hold more true to the game if it was animated, but I think it would probably be a bigger success if it was live action with real people. I think Tom Cruise (a moderately aged worrior, nothing like he was in Legend). He would of course have to have some hot chicks casting spells next to him.

The bad guys would have some diabolical plot that would have some effect on the whole world of Norrath (or perhaps like Masters of the Universe... it could even effect our world).

Maybe it could start in our world with a bunch of people having an EQ lan-party then some thunderstorm strikes the house transporting all these modern eq players in to Norrath as their characters... they learn to master their skills and save the universe... just in time to return home.

Okay... if I could come up with these ideas... they would probably all suck. But I am sure someone could come up with a wonderfully exciting story to make an EQ movie.

I want to see it already.

Why not?

Why not? I'll tell you why.

Movies based off of comic books and video games generally suck. This rule has been in place since The Punisher (the one with Dolph Lundgren, not the recent one) and such classics as Street Fighter and Double Dragon.

There are exceptions. The Spiderman movies were good, and on the gaming side the first Resident Evil movie was good too.

Plus Final Fantasy the movie BOMBED at the movie theatres, and that has huge name recognition. Square lost so much money they had to have another company buy them out just to get an infusion of cash (and has subsequently led to less quality products from them (FFX-2 anyone?)).

I don't think SOE or even Sony wants to take that kind of a financail gamble on a MMORPG based flick.

Hey they need to get Hayao Miyazaki on the horn!

It can be a heart-warming tale of a young dark-elf girl coming of age.. and then there's some cute things like kittens.. and somehow a dragon is involved... and then some thinly-veiled message about environmentalism.. and then she saves the day!!

Yeah, a female hero! That is the way to go. It worked with Resident Evil. (But not for Catwoman)

They could set it up from the beginning as a trilogy too. That seems to be the popular way to make egads of money in the movies. People will have to see the first, second and last to get the whole picture.

Each movie the heroes increase in lvl and skill and POWER.

Planets, planes, and whole populations of people will be involved. It will be at least a powerful as the Matrix & Lord of the Rings. Think of the millions of people who play this game all over the world.

Well, I just want more EQ, and another good movie to watch. I might even be happy with a mediocre movie.

If we get enough good ideas maybe we can peak someones interest who will make if for me... errr us. hehe

There is an Everquest Documentary, I was in a guild in everquest 1 with a guy who was making it. I believe you can buy it somewhere on the web, I seen a web page ... I think he was from Europe. Not sure on all the details

unfortunately.. the tried and true formula will likely never be broken.

game to movie = crap.... (iffy at best.. horrible at worst)

for every Tomb Raider (which was decent, though not oscar winning) there's about a dozen Street Fighters and Dungeons & Dragons (shudder.. gawd now THAT was pitifully bad)

I always liked Dungeons&Dragons though, I do realise that I'm about the only one who did lol.

Everquest might make a fair movie, but I doubt it. It's going to be extremely hard to turn this game into two hours or so of movie.

Mind you, if even Doom gets a movie, why not EQ?

Despite the complete failures (D&D, Streetfighter), this does mean that the movie business hasn't quit as yet. And I cannot wait to see Final Fantasy Advent Children myself actually, how can that fail at all? (granted, I don't believe that this one will be released in theaters, not even sure if they are even going to release this outside Japan, they'ld better though)

Who knows? Perhaps the movie will gain such a following that more will be made?

Theory is aawsome - the potential unlimited !!

Then comes the reality factor - like writers wanting it to be over the top .... derectors wanting it to be over the top .... actors wanting it to be over the top...

After about 2 dozen too many hands in the cookie jar the guy with the money gets mad and tells everyone to just do it and VOIALA !!

You have Dungeons and Dragons ... er.... i mean the EQ movie .

Weather it's a good movie or not, has NOTHING to do if it's from a game (although a lot of game movies suck). It just needs to have a good story, and characters that the audience can relate to. Everquest 2 has lore, but no plot that has a begginning, a middle, and end, and an interesting conflict that would fit in a 2 hour movie.

If Everquest was a movie, it would probably end up being like Lord of the Rings, except with the Lore of Everquest.
