I enjoy helping people alot.. Did it in EQ1.. ANd loved doing it there because the 'noobs' really appriciated it and looked up to you.. :)
In EQ2 the only really way to help newbies is to answer there questions and kill stuff that are about to kill them..
But here is my point:
People do not call for help! Why?!
If you would just have taken the time to call for help that one time I would have saved you from debt!!

Ok, once in a while, very rarly, people call for help and I kill their train. But not once have I gotten a 'thank you'.. :(

Calling for help will also give you out of combat regen so you will have a better chance of surviving.

To sum it up:
Call for help if you are about to die! And try to say thanx if someone saved your little butt.. :)

strangely few people actually call for help..

if the fight is close and they think they can win I suppose I can see it.. but still it's risky.

I'm a bit odd however, since I tend to solo I feel that if I bite off more than I should.. and cannot handle it with the tools at my disposal well enough.. then I deserve the death as the proverbial B#!%@ slap and understanding my limits.

a vast majority of solo deaths are avoidable.. one of the key parts of solo'ing well is knowing when a fight isn't win-able VERY early and creating a backup plan for these situations.

Well personally , I dont call for help simply from pride.
The way i see it , the fact that i bit off more then i can chew isnt your problem and you shouldnt have to deal with it . Therefore , I stand , take my medicine , and get my shard. I may zone from time to time to avoid death but other then that I wont call for help .
I guess thats just old habit from EQ1 . My guild was always taught not to run around asking for help . Its annoying to some people (obivously not you , which is cool , but some people get annoyed by it) and also in a roleplay perspective , alot of our members looked at calling for help as weak, (not that i think people who do are weak). Just a standard i hold myself to , I dont expect others to follow it and gladly help as well when people yell .

Personally I never call for help... don't even keep it on a hot key and haven't since I re-arranged them on the island! I solo and duo most of the time and try to avoid targets that I KNOW will kill me/us. Sometimes it happens but when it does, I just suck it up, take the death and learn from the experience(and it's attendent debt)!

I have stepped in and taken out a mob that has been released by someone's cry and have gotten a thank you for it. Felt like the Lone Ranger!

I only call for help as I am running from an encounter. This is usually when I'm grouped and it's one of those obvious moments where we are all either dying or running away. At that point, the call for help is only to release me from the encounter, not to actually ask for help.

Now, if you are soloing and you get in trouble, and someone is standing right next to you watching you get bludgeoned to death, I could see calling for help and that person jumping to your rescue. For this to work though you better either call for help early or hope that person has a 1 shot kill type of attack. Other then that, it's probably gonna be pretty unhelpful for the most part and it is easier/safer to just run for it.

I've never used call for help to actually call for help. But if I'm going to run, I will use it, so I actually get the benefits of pathfinding/SoW (which I always have up).

I always feel obligated to help someone when they yell, and most of the time they are only yelling to break the encounter, not because they are about to die.

But I never yell, either. I learned in EQ1 to stick with my fight, no matter what, and it's carried over to EQ2. But if I know I'm going to die, I will at least try to run somewhere where my shard will be easier to get. (Wonder if we'll someday get the ability to move them, even if it's just a little bit?)

haha...less of all this posturing!!

Whenever a fight looks like it could go wrong I yell and run like the wind! I reckon I must yell about once every couple of hours. I don't expect anyone to come to my aid, I just expect to get away with my life. In fact I was in EL the other day and must have yelled about 5 or 6 times in twenty minutes. Those lancer wasp adds just come from nowhere!

I do notice the odd player coming running past me with a mob on their tail and the encounter still locked that i would gladly help with and end up seeing them die. I guess I am happy to trade in 'pride' (it's a game and I dont get this concept of pride in a game!) for the pain of having to work through a chuck of debt.

Minky.
