Is my current computer sufficientFollow

I am currently thinking about joining the EQII community.
However, I have two small concerns.

First, I don't want to purchase the game and then discover that my computer doesn't handle the game well enough for me to enjoy it.
My current configuration:
AMD64 2800
1 GB PC2700 RAM
XFX GeForce FX5500 256MB
Broadband Cable Internet Connection

Second, I have played EQOA for the PS2 and I'm wondering how hard the learning curve is going to be for me to adjust.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

Forgive my ignorance about your processor, but everything else you listed will run the game very well. I was running a 2.54 Gig Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM and a 128 MB vid card, and the game still worked (although it lagged in some areas). I recently upgraded the RAM to 1 Gig and now it's perfect. So you should have no problem at all playing the game on it's highest settings.

I don't know anything about EQOA, but I know a couple of things:

1. A lot of people say EQ2 is definitely different than EQ, and most say that as a good thing.
2. I had a friend play FFXI on PS2, and he had no trouble switching from console to PC.

So I don't know if those things help, but hopefully they'll give you some sense of what to expect. Good luck!

No problme. Thanks for the input.
The processor is the AMD Athlon 64-bit 2800 processor.
It runs around 1.8 Gig stock and is very easily overclocked safely into the 2+ Gig range. I usually run around 2.1 because I haven't ran anything that needs more than that yet.

Agree, your system is fine.

Ensure your video card is Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of texture memory. Not all video cards have that.

If you can afford it, double your RAM to 2GB.

Don't know about EQOA, but there is a very comprehensive tutorial at the beginning of the EQ2, followed by the newbie training grounds, Isle of Refuge. It is a good place to learn combat, crafting, quests, get a set of armor and weapons, a little cash, and get up to level 6.

If you are thinking about becoming an Artisan, you can very easily get yourself up to level 8 artisan while on the island.

Good luck!

Yeah your machine will run it fine. About to upgrade my comp to something similar. Gonna go with 3000 CPU though and 1.5G ram. Using the new ATI chipset board. Onboard video. My current machine is a 1.4Ghz Thunderbird with 768M ram and a Radeon x800 Pro with 256M. It runs fine on that machine. Oh I'm also going with SATA raid with 2 80G HDD's. Even more speed. =P But yeah you shouldn't have any problem running it. As far as comparison to EQOA I don't know wnever played it but would imagine you wouldn't have that big a learning curve. Heck I betaed EQ2 and found it quite easy to pick up. But of course I had been playing EQ before that but still it's quite easy to pick up. And most people are very friendly and will answer your questions if you /ooc them or whatever. I know I try to answer questions in /ooc and /shout when people ask. =)

I believe there's now a free trial download of Isle of Refuge. Check out the official site.

only possible problem could be the GFX card, when i first bought eq2 i had a geforce 4200 which was listed as supported and at first it played fine but later started messing up my gfx and merged all the colours, when i went to tech support they told me there were known issues with geforce cards and their drivers and to be able to play i had to keep swapping between two sets of drivers until the gfx messed up yet again.

i ended up switching to a radeon card and it works fine now
