My useful ratFollow

Asassins:

Everyone always complains that their "fun" spell isn't useful, like the crusadors'.

Well I found a use for my pet rat, so there :P

(Not exactly sure if rat is behaving as intended, so if this goes away in a few patches, my apologies) This stuff only works about 50% of the time, but when it does, it's nice.

Even though it's a non-combat mob, it's technically "in your group". This has a couple uses:

1) helps you run away
2) helps you backstab

The trick is use Evade and Stalk, because of their agro-reducing abilities. When getting chased by mobs, hit evade, and then run by you're rat as you hit Stalk. About half the time, the mobs will ignore you and attack your rat... buying you some time. Really handy when Sprint is running out.

Likewise, if you don't get to start a fight with a sneak-attack (ie. you get jumped) do the same thing. Evade/Stalk. About half the time (if you haven't built up too much agro) the mob will turn on your rat. Then you can take your time getting behind him for some nice damage.

Also, no he won't taunt, and no he won't do damage in return... but he has some nice HP (I think he levels up with you).

Hope this gives you some new-found respect for the little guy! Have fun!!

I suppose running away would be useful. Any type of time delay between you and the mob is useful and what better way to do so by using a pet rat for bait?

But attacking from behind...its just easier to stun the enemy and run behind him and do a back attack of some sort.

Plus, you can use a HO using this technique by using your starter, stunning the enemy, then finishing with a back attack.

I am a swashy though, our fun spell is far more useless then your rat pet. All we get to do is make anybody below our level in a group emote a flustered look (i think its flustered.) Well at least we can get any girl we want in our group to fall for us when the time is needed.

With backstab, yes. But our big attacks require us to be invisible, which takes 2 buttons with casting times of 1 second each. So frontally I can do it, and hit for 100-150 (lvl 26). But if I can get behind him I can do 300-500. Sadly, stun doesn't last quite long enough to do this.

Yeah swashies do seem to get ripped off with their fun spell (it is kinda funny though).

_______

Lateral: try the scribe shop in Qeynos harbor. Tho I'm not completely sure about that since I'm a freeporter.

DUDE! lateral... that quote is AWESOME, I signed up for posting just so I could tell you how much I liked it. It took me a couple seconds until it hit me... I was tearing up, I was laughing so hard... I was just wondering where you heard that, or did you make it up?

I wasn't aware that anyone besides the usual classes got pets. Any idea what other classes get pets?

Yes, rangers get a hawk at lvl 20. All the fluff spells have to be purchased and if you're still in Qeynos, that one can be found in the Eldaar Grove. Near the gate to North Qeynos, there are 3 NPCs standing facing each other near a crumbling wall. One of them has it for sale.

I´m not sure whether this is supposed to happen or not, but it works for me most of the time: say you´re Lv 23 and you need to kill a firelight shriller, and you know you can take one out, but not two. Problem is, you hardly find them single, they do come in pairs most of the time. When my pet is on follow/protect yourself (which it is, as it cannot do else), and I attack the first shriller, the other one agros my rat, who starts running like hell, never to be seen again, and pulling the second shriller with him. I can take my time killing the first shriller, without ever getting bothered by the second.
Last step is to spend an hour looking for your rat, who´s hiding in some far corner of the zone, or just dismissing it and summoning a new one.

Maybe it´s a bug, but it works for me, so my pet saved my neck more than once.

That´s why I love my rats ;-)

Fight one..then HEY here's another decides to pop on! Then HEY...the one you killed a minute ago has just rejuvenated NEXT to you to add on!!! Crazy!
