A bot is a character that is run by a macro or different program to conduct a series of actions, not under actual live player control. A typical use would be an "artisan bot" to buy componenets, move to crafting table, craft, return to merchant, repeat. The bot could create huge piles of components and gain exp, all while the account owner is off line.

They are not allowed, and can result in the character and/or account being shut down.

Another bot-like action are some of the money traders that will sell you virtual in-game money for real-world cash. i.e. 100 gold for $50, payable through PayPal.

These businesses are legal, although irritating.

They typicaly function as a "sweat-shop" of computers running the character 24 hours a day. They will "6-box" (one guy running 6 computers), all will be set to /follow the group lead. They will go around and kill snakes, rats, and slugs, collect the junk that drops and sell it. The group acts like a pack of mules hauling around backpacks full of pelts, fangs, and whiskers.

Best way to defeat these groups are to /petition the GM's. Report the names and location of the characters. We can also just not buy this virtual money from them.
