I just got EQ2 last night out of being dead bored of WoW, and i have a level 8 fighter. So far i have been getting my skills as i level up, will that always be? or will i have to go buy the skills from a trainer or something at some point.

Im also wondering if/where there is a player based auction house or bazaar where i could buy some better gear. As in all MMOs, the merchant gear always sucks and since i have yet to find where the player based economy is, im sorta stuck with it.

Thanks in advance, this is a great game.

ok you need to get a merchant board in yer house first and formost. Then you find a broker which is the "auction house" to locate items with all kinds of filters.

As for the job, you get all kinds of skills and whatnot you automattictALLY gte them as a fighter, then the upgrades are avaliable through broker or merchant. Anyway i got a lvl 28 pali and i am lovin it also i do9 hope this helps ya out.

I think CommanderHoek put you on a bumsteer with his suggestion. The board can be used for browsing the market but is primarily used to sell your own stuff. That said, if you see something you want on the market it will tell you who is selling it. For example, Minky in Miny's Inn room, Nettleville hovel. You can then hotfoot it over to the inn at Nettleville, right click on the door for the rooms and select visit. Type in minky and choose to enter. You will zone into Minky's room. Then right click on Minky and choose to use the merchant and you can buy the item you saw on the market. This is the cheapest way, but you run the risk of someone buying what you want before you get there.

There is an easier way though and that is to use a broker. There is one in N Qeynos in the building next to the bank, though you can always join a wholesaler society and use the one that's in all of the societies. Here you can browse the whole market and buy from it, but for a 20% mark-up. There is even a black market broker that allows you to buy stuff from thr Freeport market at a 40% markup (Im assuming you are in Qeynos here!) I wont tell you where that broker is for now :P

I hope that helps.

Minky

EDIT: Apologies to commanderhoek. he did actually mention brokers...it just wasnt too clear and a new player can easily assume from what you said that it all revolves around this board you suggested they buy.

You will be capped at level 9 until you complete your Hallmark quest to choose a fighter subclass.

Fighter Training
http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?&eq2quest=400

This will happen again when you reach level 19, capped until you select another speciality.

Regarding gear, you have probably already found out how little coin you can get from mobs - none. You will only be able to sell the pelts, fangs, and dog-spit you loot. It took me quite some time to get my first gold piece together. Just trying to figure out how to frame it in my room. :)

To get cash to buy gear, best way is to go complete as many quests as you can. Most NPC's give quests, and will reward with some coin and/or an item. There are some quests that will reward armor or weapons.

If you are in a guild, there may be several members that have old gear they have outgrown, and would be willing to give them to you. (please don't /ooc "Can someone give me stuff?")Additionally, the artisans in the guild can make stuff for you. I am fortunate to get all my jewelry from our level 35 Jeweler.

Another way to make coin is to spend time crafting and create some of the basic items that the higher level folks need. A few that come to mind are: quills, paper, staves, inks, vials, spice, etc.
Use that Merchant Board in your house and sell the items when you are /afk for the night. You can also sell the stacks of harvested items you get throughout Antonica; lead, iron, elm, electrum, roots, belladona (tier 2), etc.
The higher tier the harvested item, the more in demand it may be.

Good luck!
