Player vs. Opposing City = (Good vs Evil Finally!)Follow

I am very much looking foward to the next Live Update:

Quote:
Sassee: I remember in EQLive, my first trip to a “good” city as a Dark Elf. My invisible spell wore off and I had to run for my life from a guard. Needless to say, I didn’t make it. While some people found it very frustrating, a lot of players thought that added a lot to the storyline of good vs. evil. Will we ever be able to attack the guards/merchants in opposing cities and will they ever attack us back?

Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: Live Update #3 includes city sabotage quests which allow you to strike at the opposing city. This is the first real chance Freeport citizens get to lash out at those goody-goody Qeynosians, and it gives people from Qeynos the opportunity to undermine the nefarious schemes of the Overlord.

Seems like the cold war may be heating up...

This means that I can gather a few Qeynosians, take the trip to Freeport, and kick their ***. This idea sounds alot better in my opinion than direct PvP combat. Since SoE wants to keep EQ2 PvE, this will be a welcome addition.

I also can see this idea branching out to something like an indirect PvP. Where each city battle for points of some sort by doing these quests.

In any case, sounds like fun!

I recall in EQ1 (way before the Iksars were playable) a load of Troll and Ogre players attacked Qeynos slaying all the guards in sight. There was little anyone could do about it as there was no collision detection and when a bunch of us lined up to form a defensive wall across a gate they ran straight through us.

I noticed a mention that collision was now a part of EQ2, which means these defensive walls of players can now be created to block gates and doors. I can't see much use for this expect for splitting up attacking hordes and cutting off escape routes. We just need jumping to be more realistic now so a 30 stone ogre cant leap 7 foot in the air over one of these walls!!

Anyway, I was just thinking how this could add an extra dimension to player attacks on cities.

Also, I think it should be set that PvP can be instantiated when a player attacks a guard. It would make him/her fair game for people of the same faction of the guard. For example...six evil ogres march up to the gates of Qeynos and start pounding on a guard. Up to the point that they attack, no-one can do anything but watch, but as soon as they lay a hand on the guards they are flagged and any good character can assist the guards. The few lowbies around would call for help and before you know it, hordes of good characters swarm to the gates to protect the city. The ogres had best work fast and run and hide before they get there. The flag would wear off after five minutes of peace.

Of course, this would throw up all kinds of issues such as what if another 12 evils are hiding nearby waiting for the call-out to help? At which point can they become involved? Is it when they /assist, heal or buff one of the flagged players?

I could see this kind of thing opening up a whole world of fun and massive guild raids on towns. In fact prearranged wars could be staged using a lone guard as the kickoff point. I'm liking this idea the more i think about it.

Now it's time for everyone to pick holes in my idea :P

Cheers
Minky

Wow, that is a killer idea... I dont know if its the coffee, lack of sleep, or what im smoking, but i think thats the best damn idea for the advancement of the game that ive heard since launch.

Would love to see something like that implimented but i doubt its going to happen for quite a while. Anyway.. great idea *Rates Up*

I think its a wonderful idea! Then maybe I can show those Freeport guards who's in charge while I'm looking to visit some people inside of Freeport. I mean really.. the guards hit me once, and I get thrown out? What ever happened to defending yourself.

Besides... could a dumb, drunken Freeport guard even hit a monk? I carried a pot of water halfway across Qeynos without even spilling a drop, so really, could a guard knock me out with 1 hit? I think not.

This sounds like a lot of fun. While I prefer PVE to PVP servers, I would not mind at all if they brought back /duel and /guildwar. We had a guildwar in the Lake Rathe arena back on Fennin Ro in EQ1 and it was a blast.
