Not alot of difference really.

Coercers get a group haste, while the illusionists have only a single target. Not really an issue because haste spells dont really have much of an effect due to the way arts are spammed and swings are generally only gotten in in between arts. It doesnt affect casting timers at all... just melee swings.

Coercers also get a group power regen, but it isnt until lvl 48 and it requires thought stones. Thought stones are easy enough to get, but it does somewhat limit its usefulness at the beginning of a grind and its one more thing to pay attention to.

Illusionists have more powerful AoE ( Area of effect) spells and more powerful power draining spells that are gained earlier than Coercer.

Coercer gets stronger single target nukes.

Coercers have a useless charm ability that is completely broken and illusionists get a completely useless summon ( non controllable.. basically a DoT with a cool graphic) that also doesnt work at all. Well the summon works but rarely actually does any dmg and pretty much does nothign but erase all DoTs that were previously on the bad guy.

When it comes down to it, they are both equally good at thier roles in a party. Thier role is basically damage mitigation by silencing ( stifle) an enemy, draining thier power, and stunning them. Mez is not thier primary role now, although its still essential for controlling adds.

Illusionists are good, while coercers are evil. Pick whichever one you want, they are both equal ( though still somewhat different).
