Is there a use for the merchant bought pickaxes, fishing poles, and the like?

Do they increase your rate of improvement or your rate of rare findage?

ROFL, I was just about to ask about this, and here you have this at the top of the page. Bravo!

I'm interested to know how this effects your success, etc., also.

Apparently not.

I read they were left over from beta and serve no purpose.

I imagine they were intended to work like the geerlok devices in EQ, giving you a bonus to your skill level if you carried one but they probably just tossed the idea out as they neared release date.

Now all that's left is the cases of unsold stock littering the merchants shelves! Could always be worse though... we could have to wade through all that vendor trash everytime we opened a merchant screen like they do in EQ!!!

But that was wonderful, OBD.

Didn't you ever find just what you needed that someone had sold to an NPC? I really miss being able to buy those things off vendors. Of course it wouldn't help much with quests in EQ2 but it was always interesting and there was always the chance of a "find". A friend once bought 3 ornate patterns off a vendor in PoK.

It might make collections easier as well.

I see your point Cobra and yes, vendor shopping did have it's moments. Finding something wonderful on an NPC merchant was always sort of magical... like spotting a great bargain at the local swap meet or in a garage sale.

But, I was referring to all the garbage that stacked up there between patches. As far as I'm concerned, if I never see another <insert name of random useless junk item here> in my life, that'll be just fine!

On the other hand, it would be nice to find an occasional butterfly or shard when you needed one!

What shall I do now, I'm so conflicted!!!

man that sounds so sweet, too bad the reason they prolly did away with vendor sold - player goods is cuz it prolly caused alot of server overhead keeping track of all the little goods for each merchant that suddenly changed cuz someone sold some crap. cuz damn i know alot of people would be happy with their collections after the stuff i sold today, around 30 beetles 20 or so differnt ones including irridescent ones and various bones, along with halfling, orc, and ogre petrified eyes
