APG 8x question (graphic card)Follow

#1 Feb 06 2005 at 1:29 PM Rating: Decent
I want to get a graphics card with an AGP 8x specification and I dont know if my comp goes up that high. Now what happenes if I try to put an AGP 8x card into a comp that only goes up to 4x. Will it just plain out now work...? Or will it just lower to that speed? Thanks!

I think most graphic cards can be either 4x or 8x so which ever yuor computer will support it will run.

yes If you buy any new 8x video card it will run at 4x if that is what your motherboard is set to. You can check what your computer is set to by going into your BIOS when you first start up and in one of the sections it will say something like "VGA Settings" and see if it will go to 8x and if you have a 256mb video card you should be able to set it to use the full 256 mb's there too.

Most system boards allow 8x anyway. If you have an older board it may not, but more than likely if it is AGP it will support 8x.
