Grey Mobs vs Grey QuestFollow

#1 Feb 05 2005 at 8:54 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a little confused about the whole dead quest thing. I understand the concept that mobs won't drop what you need to complete the quest, thats fine. My question is, how do you know whether the quest is dead or not? I currently have 3 quests (all three are green at level 22) that I haven't been able to complete.

I have to kill Dregs for some journal and after each kill it tells me I did not find any quest items. Is that a good sign or bad? If it is saying that I did not find any quest items, does that mean that I will find them if I keep looking?

I have to get requisitions to study from orcs in the Wailing Caves, so I can learn to speak orc, and haven't found one yet.

I have to find cords of Dervish Cutthroats, and much like the Dregs, it keeps telling me that I did not find any quest items.

I understand that Grey mobs don't drop chests, but I have completed quests like this before where a grey mob drops something directly to you. So I'm confused if I am wasting my time trying to complete these quests or if I should just delete them.

If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks :)

As far as I have encountered, as long as it is green you can complete it. Also if it states that no quest item is found is a good thing, that means it recognizes the quest still. I get that message constantly on quests I have done and eventually you will get quest components.

just turn off combat xp and you should be fine .
From what i have seen tho , even if the quest is grey and the mob is grey , if you kill it you still get quest credit for it .
Every quest i have done , when i kill the mob , the quest item is "autolooted "and you just get credit, ive never actually had to loot a mob for a quest item .
But either way , if you turn off your combat xp you will get chests and such still .

If your orc language is at all like the gnoll or Giant language quest then you may be out of luck.

Normal quests "autoloot" into your invisible "quest inventory". These will work even on grey mobs. However the language quests all seem to require a chest drop which you then study. Once the mobs are grey you can no longer get chests.

That is good, that mean you killed the correct mob, just no luck on gettin the item. If you dont get that text then you will never get the piece for the mob you killed.

Absolutly correct, On the spirt for my ghost mastery quest I killed hundreds before getting the update last night.

Currently those requistions only come from chests. If the orcs in wailing cave are grey to you then you are SOL and you will have to buy the ones you still need or give up on the quest. (or get lucky like I did and find a chest that someone didn't open before they ran off). Personally i urge everyone to /feedback that the lauguage items should drop off mobs of that type of all levels, so folks can learn them latter in life if the missed finding it before out leveling it.

This is the exact same as the 1st question. If you get the message you are killing the right mobs and you will eventually get the item you need.

Some Quest updates are rarer than others. I have some items that I have gone mulitple levels not getting the items I need but since I get the update I know it is just a rare occurance.

Thanks a lot everyone. I was getting worried because I have killed a ton of Dervish Cutthroats and Dregs Sneaks, and haven't gotten anything. The Dregs quest I only need 1 journal, so thats no big deal, but I have to get 10 cords off of Dervish Cutthroats, and haven't gotten one yet. It keeps telling me that I did not find any quest items, so I guess I will keep trying. Thanks again everyone.

i have yet to have any quests actually be grey to me, i have some that have been green for like the last 5-10 levels but not actually grey out. As for the language quest items from what i have heard these are supposed to be moved to regular loot drops instead of chest soon kinda like they did for heritage quest for lightstone. (Not sure if this was something i had read as an official SOE comment or 2nd hand info from other players.)
