Tech help with borderline PC.Follow

#1 Feb 04 2005 at 12:41 PM Rating: Decent
I have a new Dell 280 at work now with a intel 82915G Graphics card.
Of course I would only utilize it for EQ2 if it were during my official lunch break.
EQ2 will actually launch but comes up and the fps is super slow I have everything coumpletly turned down. Any help would be greatly appreacieted. I have done no tweaks on the PC other then to make sure only the bare minimum is running.
Help!!! I want to play EQ2
Thanks in advance.

unfortunately I think you've slammed headlong into the limitations of the system..

what speed is the processor..?

how much ram does it have...?

512 Ram
Processor is about 2.4 Celeron
I relize it would be slow but not so slow that its unplayable.
From my exp if the video card "passes" as far as texter and shader and memory usally eq2 is at least playable.
Like I said it seems to load all fairly well but just no frame rates fer second at all. probably like 1 frame per every 1.5 seconds.
Thanks in advance,

Anything less than 768MB of ram will have disc caching for large zone data and even some graphics textures. This will result in many choppy play and long zone in times.

The CPU should be sufficient.

But the main drawback is definately your graphics. The fact that it plays means it has the 4 required pipes needed to run it, but it just doesnt support the newer advanced shaders being used and other DX9C features. This will most likely make the game fall back to older versions like instead of pixel shader 2 or 3 it will use 1 or 1.x+ which is slower. As well who knows how much "Shared" memory it may be using from your 512MB of ram to even process textures etc. It may Only use 32 or 64MB of Ram for the video. As far as I know I do not know of any onboard video chipset used that can play this game at a playable framerate. Even on Extreme performance settings.
