How will this runFollow

I bought EQ2 on day one, but my PC couldn;t handle it very well. I'm running on a AMD Athlon XP 3000+ and 512 ram. My vid card is a GeForce 5200.

Will the game run well if I upgrade to 1 GIG ram? Like will I finally be able to run through a town without freezing up for 2 seconds =P

And how is the population on this game, do alot of people play? I'm currently playing WoW, but I miss the group aspect of MMos.

And whats the max lvl, are there raids at higher lvls?

I deffinately recommend the upgrade to 1G of ram. I have a pretty solid comp but I still lagged real hard in city zones and after I zoned 5 or 6 times until I upgraded my ram. Now I have absolutely no problems with lag and it's wonderful.

The population varies from server to server and is sometimes dependent upon if you are a good or evil race. From what I can tell, the good race zones are much more populated game wide while Freeport gets a little less attention. However, by the time you hit 25-30 this pretty much evens out because the two sides intermingle at that point.

Yes there is raiding to be done. There are zones that are pretty much classified as raid only along with several mobs around that need a raid sized force to take them down. Also, the game is still pretty new so a lot has yet to be accomplished. Raiding really depends on what guild you get into. Some guilds are a bit more layed back and don't worry about the raiding aspect while others are set up purely to raid. I'm sure there is probably a middle ground as well. You shouldn't have much trouble finding a guild that fits your style of play if you know what to look for.

But is the game popular, does it have a solid userbase. Because I've heard many people were disspointed by it. And I don't want to start playing something that may be dead in a year or two.

You might want to look at the GEForce 5200 you have, it is only just a dx9 compatible card and EQ2 was designed to stretch the latest 3D cards out there. The options menu in game allows you to tone down the graphics requirement on your card. Just choose high performance or very high, and you should wiz through the city zones. I had a GEForce 5700 Ultra and had one or two snags in cityat a decent quality setting. Once i upgraded to the 6600GT though i had no probs whatsoever. Oh yes, i have 1 Gig of memory too.

So we're fanboys because we're enjoying the game huh?

Why do you even post here Sotonin? Just to spend time insulting people for *gasp* enjoying a game that you don't enjoy? Please just go away.

As far as the original poster, 1 gig of RAM will help, but as Druss said, you will really want to consider a better graphics card also. You can get something decent for $100 if you look around, but if you can spend at least $150 you can definitely move up a few notches.

I ran extremely decent with a Radeon 9600, and I think it cost me maybe $125? And that was a few months ago. Its not high end and its not going to run well at high graphics, but with high performance turned on, it was very doable, and the lag was not significant. I used to be virtually unable to run through SQ or NQ because I would constantly freeze up, its a ton better now, because I cleaned up my settings (balancing more towards the performance side instead of the graphics side), and also SOE patched some stuff that seemed to have reduced the lag.
