1) Can guardians and/or paladins duel wield? If so, which.
2) Can guardians and/or paladins use bows? If so, which.

Im doubting the bow usage on both classes, in which case im assuming a Beserker would be better.

Guardians can Dual-Wield and use bows.

Paladins cannot use Bows. I don't think they can dual-wield but I don't play one.

The difference between Guardian and Berserker is one of defensive versus offensive specialisation.

Dual wielding is nothing like it was in EQ and the benefits are not the same. It is much more a thing for dps classes. A Warrior of either class can do fine with 1H + shield or 2H weapon.

And Paladins get other means of ranged attack by spell (as do guardians) which can be used in place of a bow.

I'm thinking of making a guardian. (got a level 9 fighter ATM, about to start my first class quest) So, if I'm understanding all this right, maybe I shouldn't dual wield with her, just use some sort of 1 hander and a shield for the AC? I know in EQ1, almost all warriors dual wielded. But it seems like the guardians in this game really are the meat shields, in the way that the EQ1 warriors were supposed to be.

I guess what I'm saying is, I should go for the HP and AC over damage, right?

Yes Nadenu, you have it right. As a warrior in EQ1, it was all about duel wield but in EQ2, the Guardian truly is the defensive meatshield. I use 1H and Shield for tanking and 2H for solo.

You have the bow for long range pulling and *Anger*, a ranged taunt, for close pulling.

If you have an effective healing party its fun to dual weild with a guardian. An effective guardian uses Hold the Line which gives a taunt effect on your hits. If you are throwing out an insane number of attacks you are pulling some serious hate. Whenever I have 2 healers in grp i'll switch to this mode and I never lose hate. Its also fun to change things up a bit.

Mistress Nadenu,
This is coming with the perspective of soloing, so if you group, duo or more, it may differ.

With my Guardian I actually do all three fighting styles, sword/board, 2h and duel wield. I only take out the sword/board when I group up (close to full party). I use duel wield mainly when I'm fighting casters. I don't know if this is fact or not for everyone, but I've had better experiences in taking down caster gnolls with duel wield than I do with the 2h. I use a greatsword for pretty much everything else and even sometimes on casters when I'm too lazy to switch weapons (but I do burn a lot more abilities just to kill the caster). hehehe

As far as HP/AC > Damage, yes, Guardians are not offensive. If however, you want to be a damage tank but stick to the warrior line, Berserker is where it's at.

If you're duo'ing with a healer, you could use a 2h instead of sword/board for the added damage.

I miss my Guardian but being sneaky sneaky is fun... Decisions!
