Ok. I've got my laptop now. It runs EQ2 adequately, but I really want it to run on the "lowest" settings. I don't care if it looks like crap, as long as the lag isn't too bad, because the laptop is running my clericbot.

Sooooo... the EQ2 video settings are a little criptic to me. What settings will help my laptop run a little smoother? Anyone know?

Hmm - I am prety sure there is a 'over all' setting that you can use to set for 'maximum performance' which will basically set resolution and all the rest to the minimum so the game looks rotten and plays fast.

But without EQ2 here - I cant really give you better details

Its all in the options window under thew graphics section

I wrestled with my laptop for a few weeks because it has high end specs yet the game ran like a dog.....then again....I did want all settings maxed at 1920 x 2100 resolution.....:)

The key was to go to the control panel for the video card, NOT the options panel in-game, and change the settings for anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering to application-controlled.
Instant bliss!!

That's useful info Ifin, my shambot is on a lower end computer, I'll try that out to see if I can't get that comp working more smoothly. Thanks!

A clericbot is a cleric char on a second computer. A box, hydra, 2box, or bot (I'm sure I missed a dozen terms for this). Usually known as a healbot. Second char that is quite frequently a healer, so that you can do more things "solo" instead of having to find others to play on your weird schedule or when you feel anti-social or whatever. This is where it all degenerates into a pro and anti-hydra thread :)

There is a setting under Options for setting video related defaults. There is also a drop-down selection that contains generic setting that affect all video options grouped by quality.

If you pick the lowest quality, highest performance option, the game turns everything off.. and I mean EVERYTHING - players and NPCs no longer have faces, most socials are removed, dynamic lighting is turned off (making torches and other light sources useless), and the clip rate is so low that some creatures will not appear until you are almost on top of them. You will get awesome framerates and zero lag (even in windowed mode) but the game is so ugly its not worth playing. I guess it will do for bots though.

Also along those lines, I notice that to activate a second EQ2 account you are asked for another registry key from your copy of EQ2. Is there a way to buy a second key from SOE instead of needing the whole damn game again? I really don't need 2 of those boxes taking up space when all SOE has to do is sell me another CD key.

I love making a slave PC. You've got to have a pecking order in your house. Also your EQ2 accounts. Show that cleric or wizard their place-- right behind the tanks on a zombie EQ2 machine. Wuuuhahahaa.

What say you?
