Ride a Griffon and go blind?Follow

#1 Jan 31 2005 at 12:30 PM Rating: Default
I was playing last night and grabbed a mount at the South Qeynos Gate Griffon Tower...
I sit on the bird and BLAMMMO! I go blind...
/quit characterselect
I log back in and I have a corpse trail...
Damned bird dropped me in the center of a gnoll village. They were all greens so I fought my way to the shard and recovered.

No more griffon rides for me... safer to run!

Thanks Tarv....
But when you have a black screen, how can you tell when you arrived??

Your characters have special vision that sees through the black screen????

LOL

a message tells you "you are on a landing zone, please move".

If/when that happens to me I just wait till I see that message, then either camp there, or walk off the edge if I can, and then /quit.

GXM,

Thanks... I guess you guys are correct. I must have /quit too soon.

I still remember when I first was blinded in EQI...
Fighting the Lightcrawlers in the Dawnshroud Peaks...
I rebooted my computer. My guildies laughed for weeks after that!

We used to make sure new members to the guild didnt reboot their PCs back when we were doing reavers in COM. Good times. 3 or 4 people would spam the normal hotkey 'BLIND - Fix it! (Horendus)' occasionally we would forget to warn people that had never faced a blinding mob, and you would see LD's then they would come back saying 'sorry my video went bonkers' or something. Always good for a laugh.

That's a known bug and randomly happens to everyone. It's happened to me about 3 times and I'm a 29 ranger who's used the Griffon often. One time I waited a while before I logged cause I simply didn't realize what was going on, the other two right away, and neither time I died, but that was alos 25+ so if I fell I didn't fall from high enough position to kill me I guess.

KNOWN BUG???

This isn't a new bug???
Whats Sony been doing?
They should fix this before they release more expansions...

/em bonks Elodarian...
Shame on me... I should know better! They released Omens of War even with the bugs in Gates of Discord and Lost Dungeons...

/sigh I guess I expect too much...

This and the "invisible" NPCs in the greystone bar....

It's happened to me twice in Qeynos. Never had a character in Freeport so I don't know about there. Anyway, the times it happened were on my first character. My second character Ardghal (level 16) and my new favorite Kaioh, have yet to encounter this nasty thing, yet. Back in the day of Arcos, I would rummage around in my inventory while riding the griffon. I think I also activated a skill once when it ran out, but can't be for certain.

With my latest two characters I just wait till the ride is over before doing anything else and have yet to be blinded.

For those that say, he quit too soon, nope. This happened to me night before last. I get on bird at Freeport Station, BAM blind. I can see my movement per fog on the map, but my red arrow is gone. I get the move off message and can't seem to even "fall" off the landing spot. I restart comp and end up in a wasps nest about 1/2 the way back. Needless to say I ran around the zone for damn near 20 minutes and like 15 damn wasps followed me the whole time. I finally had to zone into Nek to get rid of them.

It used to happen to me every time. I recently upgraded my video card and haven't had the problem since... Perhaps it has something to do with your video (?). Just my 2cp!

I always thought on eq1 you should have still been able to see your chat window while blind. I mean you lost your sigh, not your hearing (which is basically what the chat window was on eq1, your sense of sound.

Of course when you blinded a mob they could still track you down anywhere in the zone.

in eq1 when u go blind your whole screen is completely black. sound continues though. chat screens do not. you can still type however, u just cant see what you are typing. hehe

In response to the topic here, I have never had a problem with Griffons taking me anywhere, and I use them every day *Knocks on wood*. I have learned from this thread if I do for some reason have my screen black out that I should wait a few minutes before /quit so I don't fall to my death.

You are right, I forgot about that. It happened to me for the first time in a month last night after I posted on it earlier yesterday. =p

I was indeed out at /loc 0,0 in commonlands. Similar to what happened in EQ1 when you zoned with low health.

If he's blinded how can he see a message on the screen...lol. I just waited a while first and then type in /camp...if I am on the board it will go to the char screen if not then I am not there yet and have to wait.

You can still see messages. It only blacks out your game graphics, and not the UI. You can still see all text and icons, but not characters or gameworld.

Well, I have yet to get blinded while riding a griffon, but I did get shortstopped on the way to the tower... Towards the end of the trip, the griffen just stopped short of the tower.. Approxomitely about 50 feet.. (I figured that was about it, cause if you layed my character head to toe about 10 times you would then be at the tower).. The Griffin flapps his wings a bit then wala I am standing in mid air, it was kinda funny until I moved foward a bit, then whoosh... I fell for a large amount of damage, it had 1/2 a bar of health left hehe, luckily I was level 20 so I lived, but any lower and I would have been bird droppings.

I apologize for my incorrect jest. I have 2 chat boxes...one to chat on and one that does actions and messages and since I rarely pay attention to actions box unless I'm fighting, you may indeed get a message there about griffin landing...if you land that is...lol.

For the comment about video card, that can't be it. I have a very high end card and system. I can play two instances of EQ2 at the same time without lag. This has only happened to me once, but has also been occuring to other guild mates. I feel this is a server side issue.
