Trade skill pricing..Follow

#1 Jan 28 2005 at 1:00 PM Rating: Decent
This is something that I have been thinking.
Where do people get there prices from. Sometimes I think that they pull a price out of a book somewhere. These is the way that I use to price stuff when I was doing tradeskills in EQ1. Take total cost add 10 to 30% depending on failures. If something yeilds a good product evey 2 out of 3 attempts then it is safe to say adding on 20% for time is a good profit.

Now, I was searching last night for Tempers. When it came to me that it would be just a better idea to create an other toon to do what I wanted.

Example.
Was just looking for fossil temper last night for my Outfitter.
Lowest price that I saw for this tier one was 90cp. and on average it only costs about 5cp to make pristine fossil temper.

I would have paid 20 to 30cp per, but 90cp per temper is just alittle much. But of course if people are willing to pay for it let them.

Fossil temper is on the Wholesaler in your society. I think it is about 12cp

However the point holds good in that prices often seem to make no sense at all.

Half of it is that the tradeskill system is just not much fun to mass-produce on. It is vastly more enjoyable than EQ for making things generally but not much fun to churn out stacks of items in. So if you made a load of temper you might well want a silly price for it.

And prices are self-perpetuating. If you go to trader mode and the item is on sale for 60cp then the easiest thing is to put yours on at or close to the same price. Actually thinking about it in terms of cost and value is fairly rare amongst tradeskillers.

And of course there are people who can just make a new temper/oil/wash are bursting with all the money they can make from it and probably missing the bigger picture.

The really silly one is I see the same stuff that the Wholesaler offers for 12cp being offered on the market for 50cp. Like people selling App II spells for 50s - presumably hoping someone will misread and click "Buy"

Umm, I haven't really noticed that. I will have to check that out when I get back home. Thanks on that one :).

I mass produced the fossil temper, Just because I needed 4 stacks to do a tradeskill quest. And just used up the matrials that I had left and set up trader mode and was trying to sell pristine Fossil Temper at 15cp each.

Then Call me rare amongest the tradeskillers. Because, that is exactly what I do. Of course I am also the type that if you were looking for someone to help finish a quest and needed an extra body, at no XP, I would be there.

And these are the people that make it hard on everyone else. But, if someone is not watching then it is the sellers gain. Not everyone is honest.

It's likely that you missed this because all the tempers and chemical compounds are listed as *shaped* for their quality level and fall alphabetically near the bottom of the list. This applies to washes, resins, tempers, etc. Early on, I kept looking for chloro-whatever in the *c* area and fossil-whatever in the *f* part of the list. Scroll on down and you'll see them all.

little OT but i saw a Smite adept1 on the broker for 3 gold the other day , was ridiculous . And also saw a minor healing adeptIII for 30g yesterday . Its getting out of hand the prices people come up with for this stuff.

Yes, its a good idea to scroll all the way through the inventory of any merchant. Never know what you might miss. The merchant in the general crafting hall in Willow Wood sells tier II items as well. Eolith tempers and storma stuff are on sale from him. I think he prices them out around 25c.

As for the prices of Adept III spells goes, I can see them getting upwards of 20 gold since the raw componet to make them is coral or sliver and those are really very rare. In two months of playing, harvesting nearly all the time too, I've only found one of each. I made myself adpet III spells out of them. Let me tell you, Breeze adept III is hella cool too in the mana regen. I am, however, greatly disapointed that the buff timer did not go up any at all. If I where to sell Breeze Adept III, I wouldnt take any less than 20 gold for it, myself.

Sometimes, I think that prices are urged by the merchants themselves. When you can get 2 or 3 sliver for an intermediate item from an NPC merchant, then why would you sell it for less on the market? Some prices are just driven by greed too. I was looking all over for maple quills and caliun paper and the people who where selling them wanted 5 sliver or more. Now, if I am going to buy their goods to make a scroll then now I have to charge a hefty price to recoup my costs and make a profit.

The only true way to make things and sell them for a modest profit is to find a group of people and join in with them to work together or make up one of each of the different trade classes and swap componets around amoung them.
