Why is it that guilds relate maturity to age? It really annoys me that just because someone is 10 years older than me, that they're looked upon as being more mature. I mean..I was kicked out of my guild, along with every other non officer, by someone who is 29 years old. Wouldn't that be somewhat immature? Or am I missing something?

Because more often than not, it does relate. Yes, there are exceptions, but they are not as common as the younger types would like to think. Trust me, as a high school teacher, I am quite knowledgable about this.

As far as an officer/GL kicking every non officer out of the guild being immature, I would need more info. In some cases it would be, in some cases it wouldnt.

I'de have to agree with dfrnchman. Age is very relative to maturity. Of course there are exceptions to that rule. Upbringing, environment, and physiology all contribute to someones maturity. Usually physiology wins out, but circumstances can cause some to MENTALLY mature faster than others.

As stated, the circumstances regarding the officer booting all non-officers, there would need to be a lot more information to make a judgement on the maturity or lack thereof in that decision. Quite possibly it was a decision of all the current officers (who might have been a group of friends prior to creating this guild) that they should cut the guild down to just their circle of immediate friends.

Too many questions to say if it was a mature decision or not. Also keep in mind, despite what some say, this is only a game, perhaps they were not having fun with the way the guild was going so they decided to cut their losses and go back to the proverbial 'roots'.

Mmmmm sometimes it may seem that way but a rule MOST people act there age, tho I do think my 11 year old plays and acts better the 60% of the people who play EQ2 :) (If you think you are one of them feel free to flame me ) That and sometimes you never know the age of the person you group with. Most people are go wow when they ask and tell them I am 46.

I have grouped with the worst and the best players so I myself call em like I see em. Being an officer in our guild I have never booted anyone out with out finding out what was going on with that person. And if I find out they are needing to be let go I always give them the option to leave with out a mess being made (as in kicking them out)

There are mature people playing just have to look and you will see them.

Because somebody is young doesn't mean they are always immature. But on the same side when you see somebody making a fool of themselves in game you can usually estimate there age fairly quickly.

It was the singular act of 1 officer, acting on his own will. He removed approximately 30 people from the guild, then removed himself. I know it was his act alone because once I logged back on and saw that I had been removed, I asked other officers what had happened. None at the time knew, but they immediately reinvited me. Later, one of the coleaders said that he had been logged on his alt (who also is in the guild but isn't an officer) said he saw the members starting to get removed. He then saw the person in question remove themselves, and that was the last of it. Another point is that I had earned the most standing for our guild at that time. Unless the leader or the officers wanted to hurt the guild severely, I doubt they'd kick out the highest ranked member. Also, one of the officers is a friend who I've played with quite frequently, we even betrayed Freeport together.

I wasn't trying to say that there weren't mature people out there, I was more or less wondering why on all the guild recruitment threads and messages I see it requires a minimum age (normally 18) followed by "we're a mature guild" or something to that affect. It seems that they assume that anyone over the age of 18 is mature.

And no, I'm not upset just because I'm under the age of 18. In fact, I just had my 19th birthday 2 days ago.

Usually those messages are in place as a CYOA statement. Some guilds aren't always the most pleasent or appropriate places for children.

If you had a child who played a game, who happened to be in a guild and the people in that guild were completely foul mouthed and you child started using that language, you would be a bit ticked that he/she got it from a video game.

So guilds like to forewarn people that guildchat may not be suitable for children. That's about the bulk of it.

i am an officer in a guild on toxxula that was started by 5 RL friends. we mess with eachother and other guildies at the same time, and the conversation is very adult orientated. we have one 11 yr old in the guild and when that person is on, we moderate what we say. we wont kick the person out because of their age, but i do make sure to warn any new guildies that they better have a tough skin and a good sense of humor.

*adult content* is not the only reason guilds say they are *mature* though. There are guilds in EQ2 that have played together in EQ1 for many years and really are a bunch of older gamers who just prefer not to have wild teens playing with them.

I'm an officer in what I believe to be the same guild as Banter. (Neither of us are using our current toons names). If I'm not mistaken we have 5 people in the guild under the age of 15 now. We do try to tone down the language when one of them is on but I'm deffinately guilty of not moderating my keyboard. There's only 1 of those 5 that I feel is immature and that's just because of the way this person talks. The fact of the matter is you can be 10 or 60 and still get offended by some of the things said in our guild chat. It's not how old you are so much as how well you can understand that we are joking.

To the OP, if it went down like you said then this was just an officer trying to ***** the guild over while leaving. That would be very immature. However, I can see an officer (myself) booting someone for being immature. Things like stealing from another guildy, getting into fights in guild chat, and just general lack of respect. If a person in my guild displayed those qualities they would have very little time to explain themselves. Pretty much about as long as it took me to get to the same zone they are in.
