Smiley: smileHi, and welcome to the Hall of Innovation!Smiley: smile

I am hoping this thread will become a place to post your ideas about how to make this game, or heck, any mmo better and more innovative.

We had a thread going a few weeks ago cooking up quests we'd like to see in EQ2, and that was a gas. If you have any more, I'd love to see them here.

Please feel free to comment in any way about "innovation" in mmo's - again, this one or any mmo you feel. You can tell us what you think might make EQ2 better, you can say how you thought such and such was a great feature in UO or AO, or whatever. New spell ideas, magic items you'd like to see, quest concepts, zone concepts, new classes, rule changes - it's all fair game here.

I'd just like to ask that we be nice to posters, in order to encourage a spirit of, well, innovation. I don't want anyone to be scared they are going to get unfairly ripped for taking a risk in here. I for one am going to do my utmost to put my normally cantankerous gnomishness aside and to be very nice.

If someone suggests an EQ2 rule change that seems really bad to you, here is a suggestion - rather than just cutting into them (which I have done - mea culpa!) - say something like "I know that idea appeals to you - but have you considered what to do if your idea ends up causing xyz problems..." ---- rather than "that's the stoooopidest idea I ever heard! It will cause rampant xyz!" Just a thought, anyway.

I know there are some "heavy hitters" lurking on these threads, but I don't want anyone to feel their idea isn't "big enough" to be posted here. Innovation comes in many different sized packages - please post it - big and small - your idea might spark something - you never know! Toward this end I'll be reading this thread off and on, and if I recognize someone posting whom I don't see posting often - I plan to rate you up - just to encourage folks not to feel shy about putting ideas here. Heck, maybe I'll rate up anyone who makes even a half-hearted attempt at innovation. And I'll defend you if someone tries to "troll" you.

Well, here is my first idea: armor sets. These were in Diablo II, and I never got to finish one (never got on line, so I could never buy the missing pieces - and they were quite rare). Anyway, some sets could be quested for, and some could be ultra rare drops. Maybe some require high faction. The idea would be that once you got several of the set, they'd give you an extra magic effect - and it gets better the more pieces you get. Like Thorzin's Velium Plate - five pieces total. Get 3 and you get a huge cold resist. Get 4 and you get a hit-point bonus. Get all 5 and you have a small cold-based Damage Shield at all times - that stacks with other DS's. Maybe you lose fire resistance to balance it a bit.

That's it. Do you have any innovations to show us????

I'd like to see added individuality on some of the game cosmetics such as armor and weapons. As a weaponsmith I feel as though no one has any incentive to by my wares over someone elses except for price. This is on top of the fact there is really no incentive to using player made weapons as most of the quested weapons have better stats. I would like to see a variety of blades, crossguards and hilts that could be mixed and matched to make unique weapons. Each different component could have a different stat buff to make them customized for what different people are looking to boost. Or it would be cool if sages or jewelers could make runes to enchant the weapon with some kind of a clicky ability or stat boost. At least with this uniqueness even if it's not better than a quested item someone might choose to use it because they like the way it looks.

Both ideas sound good to me. The ability to customize your gear..ie...mix and match to create some combination that will differentiate you from the herd...with the ability to dye it sounds fine. I did spend a little time with Diablo II and really liked the idea of having a complete set of armor that would produce an additional effect/stat by having entire set. Like you Egnome though, I never got on line with D2 so could not complete a set. But the idea sounds cool...make them a combo of drop/quest/craft...would be fun to try and complete.

If I remember rightly, DAoC had something where you could place a design on shields and such that was created for your guild. Would be nice if there could be a similar way to place some kind of "mark"/"signature" on a crafted item designed by the individual crafter. I know it has your name on the window when you examine it....but would be cool if you could get like a special crafted item that would be placed in the hilts of weapons...or a symbol or mark placed on shields...something..doesnt have to be huge...just something that showed who it was made by just by seeing the item.

Housing quests (maybe there already is something like this) where you do weekly/monthly quests for the inn owner in order to lower your rent....probably not for the low rent places, but certainly for the more expensive living quarters.

I'd like to be able to have some sort of in game postal system. Not only would we then be able to send mail to other players, but you could even introduce new delivery quests that have a story with them.

That is a change they are implementing in The Big Update pt. 2 or whatever Moorgard decides to call it. It was discussed in the Producer's Letter I believe. They are also going to be introducing more armor and weapons that will have an even greater "different" look to them.

I would like to see something like the pimp outfit that the red mages in FFXI had for the Swashbucklers....that would be nice Smiley: grin

I would acually like those picks, hatechets and such to be usable that you can purchase. Maybe you have to buy one before you can start harvesting, etc. Or, if you buy one and equip it you will get a better % of getting rares and such. Have different qualities of the items, etc.

i played alot of online d2, that said i think the armor sets idea was great, but you tend to grow out of them around levels 60-80.

one thing i loved about eq1: playing a necromancer i had a vast array of spells to choose from. many many many different ways to kill just about any type of mob and some that you wernt "supposed" to be able to kill.

that said i dont see much of that in eq2. not nearly as many different ways to kill stuff and help people and just explore.

in the thread a few weeks ago some people had really Great quest ideas. some very good ones, i remember all kinds of quests that one can make up in AD+D, it doesnt have to all be "kill x of y" or "run to v deliver c and come back to g".

well just a few ideas..

I would like to see the return of class specific quests (other than the quests to become said class). Something that only a certain class can accomplish, and a reward that is exclusive to that class. I think the AQ's were a good idea, but Guardians wear the same armor as Templars, Rangers and Swashbucklers also don the same pieces... I'd like the actual armor to look different, and have different stats (if only by a point).

I'd like to see a more even drop of Adept spells, I see some adepts that are so common they sell for 5 silver, and others that you're lucky to see one for sale a week for 50 gold...

The ability to do certain quests (namely language quests it seems) even after you have greyed out the mobs that drop the items (not finishing bark like a gnoll was my fault, but I was just really REALLY unlucky in getting giant idols, and now I have to pay exuberant prices for the idols).

I know they've fixed (so I've heard) this problem on some of the quests... Such as the Greater Lightstone, and Stiletto's Orders for the mana stone, so that's a great thing. I just wanna learn Giant =0P

YAY!!! this is one of the things I really missed from SWG, EVERYTHING in that game was different, I could name my weapons, experiment for different stats, quality of materials made a difference, it was great.

Wow, great ideas so far! I sure hope they get around to more and better looking armor - player made gear that has more oomph - and class spec. quests.

Here is a bizarre idea for a quest: The Ghostly Time Mover. A deranged gnome tinker who lives in the boonies in a tower FULL of wild, tinkered stuff has invented a time travel device. You have to go into a "near death state" so he can extract your spirit or ghost - because only your spirit can time travel. And then he wants to send you back in time to "old Norrath" to find out information for him.

This quest would be long and hard, and divided into several parts. You have to quest for items to make the special near-death poison potion. Perhaps it will require an ingredient made by one of each of the tier three specializations of player artisan.

As you do this quest maybe other NPCs hear about it and ask you to help them, too. They can be opposed to each other, not in a qeynos-FP sense, but in a lesser sense.

You may also need to quest for a ghost's weapon so you can fight in spiritual form. Or maybe you need to quest for a ghost in the present world to learn how to speak or how to move objects or how to pick up things in spiritual form.

Anyway, you go back in time as a spirit. And you actually go to an instanced zone that "looks like old EQ" as much as the new engines can do old eq. Maybe you need to win a fight in spirit form - against some bizarre energy being that attacks you (why you needed the special weapon).

And you spy on the King of Ak'anon - here I don't have the details - I don't know where the story is going. It could be as simple as the crazy tinker says you are going to the past to steal lost information for tinkering useful things for him - but you find out he's tricking you to steal the formula for a mana-bomb from the Royal Tinker - a device that lets you store up scads of mana - and then releases it all at once in a devastating flash of power - could take out a whole city. Mushroom cloud even. This is clearly something that should remain "lost". But maybe the real purpose of the quest is for you to use other information you have picked up to figure out something more noble - for one of the other NPCs who asked you for help.

And when you get back, who you tell what determines the reward you get AND the faction hits you receive. Well, if not this story line, I love the idea of time travel to old eq to get some information - where a magic item is buried, what happened to one of the lost cities - where people are hiding in "time statis" for safety, whatever.

Kudos to all! GL!

id like different helmit graphics. like in EQ1(pre luclin) u could do the "Customize Quest" for a different and unique helm graphic, but this was only for velius quest helmets. i think that was neet, but it be cooler if they added a quest like this for any helmit and u choose what it looks like.

Yeah. Variety of helmets and hats would be good.

Crazy Ed's Headpiece rental. Do a quest for Crazy Ed and you get a class-appropriate hat/helm. But any time you want you can trade it in for a different model - same stats- new look - you pay a few silver each time.

Viking horns, antlers, huge plumes, a horse's head, a swan - medieval helms had all sorts of crazy crap on em.

I love the idea that before a raid you can go put on a radical new helm and shock everyone - a boar's head, someting with fairie wings shooting off the sides - a big shark fin - whatever. Then when you get tired of it, trade for something even crazier.

I wanna see "felt musketeer" hats as an option for rogues, or medieval looking berets with pheasant feather. Something.

Imo mages... do mages ever get to have a headpiece showing? Is it either the robed hood or no hood? I've never tried an inventor vest and a cloth hat to see what the hat looked like. Imo mages should have ... magic looking hats. A swirl of "ion stones" - a glowing band of power - necros should get a hat that makes their head turn into a skull maybe.

Monks - headbands. Bruisers... gang bandanas? JK! But something.
